I have not been staying at the property where both of us were co-tenants on the lease. It has been 4 months since I have lived there and in this time I have been trying to find a place while staying where ever I could. I have now got a place and she is refusing to give me my cats back and is keeping my furniture and some of my things. She says she has changed the locks and she left some of my stuff outside yesterday for me to pick up. She left it all directly under the gutter and it all got soaking wet as it rained all day yesterday. I just want my things back but she has refused to communicate with me. I have emailed the landlord and explained the situation while asking him to be taken off the lease. What should my next step be? Would it be wise to enter the home if I can while she is not there and take my things since my name is still on the lease? Additionally, she has taken care of the cats for 4 months, however I have text evidence of me asking her if she would like me to take them somewhere else to which she said “No its fine”. One of the cats I have records of me microchipping and taking to the vet. The other cat she adopted for me while I was out of town and it was microchipped at the adoption center, however all the vet trips are under my name. I would like to take of this all without owing any money to the landlord if that is at all possible.
