I think higher of less attractive people who dress well than attractive people who dress like crap

r/

If you were someone who was overweight, had acne, and was missing teeth, but you still dress neatly and fashionably, I’d consider that admirable. But if someone who looked like Sydney Sweeney was walking around in stained, holey sweats and crocs, I wouldn’t even make eye contact. Someone’s physical appearance can be attributed to genes, but there is no gene for terrible fashion sense.

Look. The way we perceive people often gets reduced to surface level appearances. You’re dressed up like a million bucks but your grooming’s subpar, it doesn’t compute in our minds the same way as someone who’s rocking basic but polished attire

I think attracting less attention is exactly what they are going for.

Some people can roll out of bed, put on some pajamas, and still look hot. I guess I have to actually admire that. They’re genetic lottery winners and good for them.

Obviously dressing well can make an average person at least somewhat attractive, a pretty person much prettier, etc.

I agree. Idk how many dudes wear the most basic or boring of outfits. It’s like they never learned how to dress after leaving their parents house.

I’m in great shape with strong, masculine features and generally considered handsome. I’m also confident and never meet a stranger.

When I vacation, I dress down—comfort and ease over effort.

A few years ago in Hawaii, I was wearing resort pants, flip-flops, and a button-up I’d worn fishing earlier that day. Nothing underneath, not even underwear. While waiting for dinner, a guy walked up to me and said he respected attractive people who dressed casually. He shook my hand, wished me a good night, and walked off.

Lol, your post just reminded me of that.

Unless wildly inappropriate for the occasion, a well shaped body looks way better in any clothing than someone out of shape. Its not the footwear they wear, its the way they walk.

I mean I think some of it is based on income and economic privilege

Lol. 😭”There is no gene for terrible fashion sense” is funny. This is me. Funny enough I try to style myself well to compensate for being ugly😅I know my face is not going to carry me and unfortunately I have a bad body type (very wide shoulders, no hips and very skinny calves) for a girl. So I’m very intentional with trying to style myself for my body because I don’t like it when it’s obvious that I have bad proportions.

You’re talking about effort. The effort is what is attractive vs a lack thereof.

I can shorten this and prove it’s a silly post.

    >I think higher of people who dress well than those who dress like crap

And then guess what? Not unpopular, not a good post

I don’t really care what someone else’s fashion choice is, just smell decent please

  13. sighcantthinkofaname Avatar

As long as someone is dressed appropriately for what theyr doing it doesn’t really matter.

I like people that look like their outfit was intentionally curated. You can do a lot with a little.

  15. ZealousidealFee927 Avatar

I just think higher of anybody who dresses well.

  16. Nillavuh Avatar

Yes, how dare people do nothing to make themselves more physically appealing to you!

  17. Contemplating_Prison Avatar

People and clothes. You’ve been so programmed to just consume unnecessarily. Just mindlessly consuming because of whatever reason you want.

Who gives a shit about the clothes someone wear. I dont. I can only imagine most people who care are children and the rest ate jist extremely insecure adults.

There is something to be admired about those that put themselves together well.

  19. JoffreeBaratheon Avatar

You’re so shy in public that you need rules on who you can make eye contact with? That’s adorable.

  20. SmallPeederWacker Avatar

Good! That’s the point. I’m tired of hearing “HEY! HEY BIG BOOTY WHATS YOUR NAME?! I KNOW YOU HEAR ME GIRL!! WITCHO FINE ASS!!” when I go the damn gas station.

  21. knallpilzv2 Avatar

lol what do you mean “still”

You’re saying “You dress nice in spite of your ugliness? You wear pretty people clothes even though you’re hideous? Bravo, I say, Bravo! Way to move upwards in the world! You know, attractive people being of higher value than uggos and all…”

  22. MrBoo843 Avatar

And I think less of anyone who puts so much importance on physical appearance.

This sub constantly takes down posts that completely rule compliant, but this is blatantly an r/self rule violation and here we are – live.
Do I care this post is up? No, but I’m sick of the mod inconsistency here.

  25. DirectAd8230 Avatar

I dont think that’s an unpopular opinion. Most people think higher of someone who puts in effort.

  26. Content-Pace9821 Avatar

To be honest, I have more negative associations people who dress immaculately. Higher chance of narcissism, obsession with their image, possible issues with control, etc.

I’ve tended to see that who lean more towards casual dress are often more comfortable in their own skin, less superficial, down to earth etc.

  27. AccountantOver4088 Avatar

I think almost nothing of the way a person dresses, unless it’s garishly offensive or rags.

I know way too many people who try to make up for lack of personality, charisma or a brain bu following the spoon fed fashion of the week in some sad attempt to stand out to know that any idiot can gain the attention of other idiots by wearing what they’re told to. (often spending absurd money for shiny future rags essentially)

I think more highly of someone who dresses discreetly, in comfortable and functional clothing then I do of anyone ‘dressing well’ (which is completely subjective and I’m assuming you mean takes time trying to make themselves look pretty which at a certain point becomes sad in a way)

To each their own and I’m not here to change minds, but you don’t see a ton of highly intelligent, highly productive people (I mean actually, not entertainment icons etc) following fashion trends very often do you?
