My golden retriever ate a slice of vanilla cake with a medium amount of milk chocolate chips and i’m really concerned.
My parents are currently not in the country and haven’t been for multiple weeks, my brother and his gf baked a cake about 4 hours ago.
My dog somehow got a medium sized slice of cake and downed it in under a minute. Nobody else around me is that concerned and i’m really worried for my dog, i’ve been closely monitoring her since and she’s been more thirsty than usual.
I called my neighbor who also owns a larger dog and she said i’ll be fine for most part because milk chocolate is the least harmful but i’m still worried.
Do I take her to the vet? It’s quite late where i am currently and I don’t even have a car to get there. I love my dog and i’m scared she’s going to die.
update: i’ve checked her breathing and it’s steady, she is reactive to what i’m saying and is walking around fine

You have a large dog so it would take an astronomical amount of chocolate to do serious damage, but if you are worried then call an emergency vet to get advice or treatment. My dog ate almost a whole chocolate bar and was fine thankfully. She’s 55lbs. It would take a ton of milk chocolate to hurt a larger dog. If you’re worried you can call your vet but 1.5 teaspoons or close to it shouldn’t hurt your dog!
It’s alright. I have a chihuahua who ate a full like, three truffles of dark chocolate and still wakes me up by barking at everything months later. Take a deep breath and get some sleep. If he is acting super weird tomorrow, and you’re not the only one who notices, then take him to the vet, but trust me, if something happens tonight, the chocolate wasn’t the problem.
