I will try not to make this long, but oh my gosh. Redditors are just so disgusting sometimes.
I literally cannot see a single post with a women, whether she be an adult or not, and not see at least one person in the comments objectify her.
This is why I don’t post my face. I just make art, and the few times I mention my gender, I get dms from guys asking creepy questions.
So many redditor men see us as subhumans.
We are not dolls to be customized, trophies to win. Saying you just “scored a girl.” We aren’t playing fucking soccer.
(Unless you are asexual) Everyone will most likely feel sexual attraction towards someone in their life, that’s normal.
But when you can’t see a women make a painting without needing to comment on her breasts, something is up.
And when the women isn’t up to their standards? They objectify her once again, and belittle her.
I saw someone refer to a women as a 300kg filthy whale, then said, “but she probably will still get dick.”
I was trying not to rant but sorry, I had to get this off my chest, because gosh, it annoys me.
Comments
Anonymity on the internet has ruined a lot of people’s perceptions of others. Sometimes I wonder if these are the kind of comments people feel comfortable sharing, then what kinds of thoughts have they decided to keep to themselves?
Yeah it’s awful and discouraging, in general the internet is a miserable place these days, I’m seeing more and more people using slurs, being homophobic, racist and sexist and no one is saying anything? I’m looking at comment sections going “what the fuck is happening”
Reddit users are a reflection of the people behind those usernames… a reflection of society. The guy scrolling next to you on the train could be writing out thee most disgusting screed about foids or whatever.
Sometimes I wonder if men (“not all men”) think that a woman can be a person, OR she can be someone you have sex with, but she can’t be both. Like, they don’t want to have sex with their man friends, so they think you can’t be friends with anyone you want to have sex with.
Another one is you can be smart, or you can be someone to have sex with, but you can’t be both. I’ve run into that one too. In school I did a math competition and I finished first and a boy finished second, and I heard him telling his Mom something like “She must super smart I don’t know how she got that last one” and she said “She’s cute, too,” and then he said “Mooommmmm” and pulled her away. He wasn’t mad at me, and didn’t seem to resent me. But then I heard some other guy who got eliminated early saying the whole thing was stupid and he glared at me like he was mad, like I was the reason he didn’t win.
And it didn’t go away in college, either. My intro programming class the professor said there was one perfect score on the midterm, and it was mine. The guy sitting next to me said he was surprised because I’m so girly and he’d been thinking of asking me out because I was pretty, but apparently now he wasn’t going to ask me out because he found out I was smart. After Covid, when were back in school, a guy in one of my remote classes saw me in person for the first time (I didn’t use my camera because my house internet was overloaded with so many people using it at once) and said something like “Usually smart girls are kind of ugly, but I’d totally f–k you! We should hook up!” We were in another class together, and before he seemed to respect my work, but once he saw me I went from his “smart” box to his “sex” box and then he saw me only as someone to hook up with.
At least I know not to spend time with guys like that. I can be both smart AND sexy, and any guy who gets confused by that is too dumb for me.
It’s gotten betterish recently, but god I can’t go into threads more than a few years old because there’s just something about them that’s… off, whenever topics relating to women, minorities, anything about social justice come up.
