Texas UMPD Question. Do I Need a Police Report If the Other Driver’s Insurance Later Denied Coverage?

Hey all,
Back in May, my girlfriend was involved in a wreck where another driver hit her. At the time, the other driver gave valid insurance info and everything seemed fine.

We didn’t file a police report at the scene because no one was injured, and when we called 911, the operator told us they were super backed up due to graduation events and probably wouldn’t be able to send anyone out.

Fast forward to now and we finally heard back from the other driver’s insurance, and the adjuster said the claim was denied due to no coverage, but wouldn’t explain further.

Now we’re looking at filing an uninsured motorist property damage (UMPD) claim through her own insurance.

My question is since we didn’t file a police report, will that mess things up? Is the denial from the other person’s insurance enough, or will we absolutely need a police report for the UMPD claim to go through?

And if a police report is needed at this point, what should we do since it wasn’t filed at the scene?

Any help from someone who’s been through this or knows how it works in Texas would really help. Appreciate it!
