Dear academia community of Reddit,
I am in the process of applying to grad schools and wanted to reach out to faculty as I am interested in their research. Tuition is expensive as well, and I’d love any opportunity to be considered for an assistantship. I am usually nervous about cold emails but I genuinely would like to see if I can get some sort of funding for my masters. Is there anything I’m doing wrong with this example email?
Dear Dr.Xx,
I hope this message finds you well. My name is xxx and I have recently applied to the M.S. xx Engineering program at xx and specifically want to pursue the xx track for the Fall 2025 term. I am reaching out to you as I read that your research focuses on xxxxxx.
For a brief background about me, I am a graduating senior at xxx majoring in xx with a concentration in xx, I have lead several xx-focused projects.
I previously served as the xx, where I contributed to xx. I also currently work as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for xx which has strengthened both my technical foundation and passion for xx.
Therefore, I am interested in any available graduate research opportunities. I would also like to explore any topics that I can pursue for my thesis if I were to pursue my graduate studies at xx. If any form of funding or assistantships are available, I would be grateful for the opportunity to be considered. I’ve attached my resume for your reference and would be happy to provide any additional information.
Warm Regards,
Corgiboitskitty
