Period headaches

r/

I’m in my early 30s and am on a low estrogen BC. I’ve mentioned it a few times to my GP and lady doctor that I’ve had headaches around/during my period. They kinda blamed it on hormone changes/fluctuations during my cycle but leave it at that.

Sometimes they get pretty bad, but not like puking migraine bad. They make it more hard to focus (can still get things done) but it’s frustrating and uncomfortable. Overall my periods aren’t bad, but this didn’t used to be my normal, but it’s becoming more frequent :(.

Are there any tests or anything I can push for/ask about to try to get this figured out? What has helped you?

This is hard because BC can trigger headaches in some, but headaches are also a period symptom triggered by hormone fluctuations. You could try a different form of BC and see if that helps.

Don’t just brush the migraines into cycle territory. There are good meds like sumatriptan that can cancel out the migraine. It would be worthwhile asking your gp for a rx, just so you can sleep and not be so foggy when you’re working. Avoid bright and flickering lights and noise during these times, as they can be a trigger.

Do you mean you are getting headaches during the placebo week? You can just stack your packs and avoid that.
