Very vague description, when you say interested genuinely do you mean long term thing?
You should phrase it that way if you’re going to ask saying “are you aiming for a long term thing or short term fun?”
A simple way is ask him what his thoughts are on the future like future plans or goals relationship wise then see his reaction
If negative about it or whatever who cares then probably not serious at all

Assuming you mean in very early stages, I would say probably effort. If you catch them trying to find something to bring up to have a conversation with you, they’re probably interested. This can also extend to finding things to include you in

A guys actions speak far louder than his words.
He might say he loves you, but do his actions show that? This is contextual as everyone is different, so take it with a grain of salt, but it’ll generally be showing an interest in you.
When I was in love, I wanted to immerse myself in the other person, who they are and their ‘energy’, per se.
A guy that doesn’t care about you will only be messaging you when he is bored or wants something, then he would disappear.
He will show a disinterest in you and things you enjoy or talk about, some people can fake interest but it’ll come out in other ways, ie constantly changing the subject quickly whenever you bring something up, or never letting what you want to talk about ‘drag on’.

Depends what you mean by “genuinely interested,” guys are pretty straightforward most of time, if they show interest in you then chances are that they really are.
Whether or not you’re also interested in him is probably a more important question to ask.
