I’m trying to decide what college program to enroll in.
Blue collar men, what’s your job? How long have you been in the industry? What were the requirements to enter your industry? What, in your opinion are the most critical skills? What did your career progression look like?

I work in survey and civil engineering. Technically I’m purple collar, which means I spend time in the office and in the field. It requires analytical skills, determination, and a decent understanding of geometry really helps. Everyone makes their career what they want in this industry; I know guys who are in the field everyday at 50 and guys who almost never go outside at 30. Pay is decent, you probably won’t become rich doing it unless you start your own firm or developments, but municipal projects continue even in recessions most of the time so it’s a decently secure job. It’ll also let you go anywhere in the world.
