Location: Florida Employment Law-> At Will Employee -> So I met with my old manager today and was told that I have performance issues after 4 years of being at the company with no prior notice of this. I apparently make people feel stupid. As such my leas don’t believe I a committed to my role anymore. however instead of laying me off, they have asked me to take the weekend and consider if I want to remain employed or if I want to leave. Truth be told, I do want to leave if this is how they are treating me, but how do I play my cards right to not make it voluntary?

You tell them you’ve decided to stay. Then you continue working until they fire you. Then you file for unemployment.

When did Florida make the switch from right to work
Never quit
Don’t quit, make them fire you.
Start working on the resume and the job search immediately, your days are short at your current employer.
You could ask for a severance.
“You’re right, Bob, I’m not sure this is the right role for me, but I don’t have anything lined up. My intent is to keep working here.
That being said, if a severance was offered to help with the transition, I’d be more than happy to consider it as part of a voluntary departure.”
Only quit if you find another job first.
