So my girlfriend, let her ex get a vehicle in her name. He was making payments for five months, he got behind one month and then got locked up for a year or so. When he was in jail, she tried to get the vehicle, but his family wouldn’t give it to her and no one was making payments. She’s not really sure what happened to the car after that, but she thinks it was just parked at their house and they were using it.
Fast-forward two or three years and she got a summons in the mail saying that she’s being sued. She bought it at one of those buy here, finance here, all credit scores accepted places.
Is she completely screwed because the loan was in her name?

Basically: Yes. Her loan her responsibility to pay. She can always try and sue her ex after she pays but from what you posted they are likely judgement proof and it would be a waste of time.
Yes, she is liable. Once one signs a contract, they are at whole responsible.
Learning experience.
Yes this will affect her credit horrendously aswell
