Dealership try to scam me

r/

3 days ago I went to close a deal of a car I wanted to purchase. I went to see the car 2 days before and then made the desicion to buy it. I did all the paperwork with the salesmen, signed and filled all the requirements. After 6 hours of process I was able to take the car. Just before a was about to leave the same salesmen decided to check my oil levels. We then realized that it had no oil. After that, he left and went inside the dealership just to come back and tell me I couldn’t have the car because they did not know why the car had no oil. To make this clear I was buying a used car. I was shocked when he told me I couldn’t have the car. Everything just seem strange and he was willing to give me another car to get back home and come back the next day to pick up the car I purchased. I was really upset and told him and his manager that I did not want ot car anymore. I requested a refund for the money I put as down payment, and was told it could take from 3-4 business days. I’m really concerned about what will happen if they refuse to give me my money back. Any advice? Location: Florida, United states

This seems confusing. There is zero reason to check oil on a car at that point. Did you not do a test drive?

Did you see him check the oil, or did he just disappear into a service bay and come back to tell you that ?

My speculation is that they knew this car leaked oil, and wanted to be sure it had enough to get you down the road. Generally when something like that is discovered, they write a “we owe” slip and keep the car until their service guys can fix it.

As you have described, it sounds like you bought a used car on an as-is basis, and you can demand the take delivery of it on that basis. If you signed the as-is paperwork, you might not even have an implied warranty of merchantability.

    >if they refuse

Worst case, you get the car you decided to buy last week and spent six hours doing so.
