I have a new landlord, due to the building selling, and he’s making me get rid of my cats and is raising my rent 100$

Hey, so, I live in PA, specifically Lawrence County, and I’m having an issue. My previous landlord was this sweet old man whom I had been renting from for a year. My rent was only 500$, super cheap, and he came in a timely manner when something needed fixing.
he recently sold the building and now my new landlord is this younger guy. he said during our first meeting that he’s raising my rent and that I need to get rid of my cats, which my previous landlord had no problem with. he says my apartment stinks of cat and that I have to get rid of them by the end of august or I can move out, and honestly was very rude about the whole situation.

My only issue that I’m running into is my previous landlord let my lease run out before he sold the building and wouldn’t write a new one cause the new guy was gonna take over, and he wanted me to have a lease with him instead.

Is there any legal standing I have to keep my cats and keep my rent lower? Or am I fucked? I can’t afford to move, and I’m disabled. I only got this apartment cause it was so cheap, and it was ground floor, so I could walk more easily. I have no idea what to do. I can’t live without my babies.

Please, any help would be appreciated.

edit: I had forgotten to mention that my old lease was a year long, and the new guy won’t let me sign a new year lease until this is all situated, so by definition I don’t have a lease right now. which is scaring me with a lot of stuff.

From what you have described, no. You are on a month to month lease. Your landlord can change the lease (or end it) any time with proper notice, which it sounds like he has given.

You are a month to month to tenant and as long as they give the proper notice in accordance to your area, they can ask you to leave

You still have a lease but that’s a month to month lease. He can ban pets from his property if he gives proper notice, which he has. He didn’t have to renew the one-yeat lease.
