I’m insecure about my chest

r/

I’m so insecure about my chest (30A). Sometimes I go to PINK to get measured but each time I know the answer. I barely fill out a 30A. It’s one of my worst insecurities. I know I’m still going through puberty, but I can’t help but feel that way about it.

I only got my first period at 12. My close friends got it at 9 or 10, they are all B cup and above which makes me more self conscious. All the girls around me are more developed than me and I’m so self conscious even though it’s normal to have a flat chest right now.

One of my friends called me flat chested to my other friend who told me about it. She said that she doesn’t get how I have such a flat/small chest if i got my first period last year.

I know that’s boobs are all genetic but that just worsens my insecurity b/c I fear I’ll just end up with a flat chest. Even though it’s only a matter of time until they grow and whatever, it still stung to hear it from someone else even though it’s true.

Getting measured and comparing myself to my friends is like rubbing salt in the wound. I’m so jealous of those girls who have an average sized chest. It feels like everyone is ahead of me (physically) and i’m stuck like this.

Although there are many benefits to having a small chest, I want a body i desire but it’s only bra sizes away. I’m comfortable with everything else but my chest. Even though there are many benefits, i want a developed chest.

sorry if you see me in other subreddits i just like hearing people’s perspectives/input 🙂

So first, I would say that getting your period at 12 is actually the norm. Girls getting their period at 9 or 10 is actually pretty early and there’s been studies about how this is often linked to a diet high in processed foods.

As for your bra size – have you tried getting fitted at a department store like Nordstrom? Those tend to be the best for bra fittings. You can also try the calculator at r/abrathatfits. You might find that your bra size is a bit better.

That being said, you’re thirteen, it sounds like? You’re only really starting puberty and your body will be changing a lot over the next five years. I know it can be hard but give yourself time. Try not to compare yourself to others – comparison is the thief of joy.

    1. 12 is a very normal age for a first period.

    2. If you’re in middle school or high school, your body is still going through a lot of changes. Truth be told, your body never stops changing. The one you have now will be different in five, ten, fifteen, twenty years – you won’t know what will happen until it happens.

I know that’s not comforting to a kid who just wants her body to look like her friends’ bodies. It can be lonely and uncomfortable to be the only one in your social circle with a certain body type, or at a certain stage in development. There’s very little an adult can tell you about the future that makes you feel better about the now. But I can tell you not to dismiss the power of a wardrobe that suits the body you have – even a few pieces that make you feel cool and stylish can help a lot with your confidence, and can take some of your focus off of the parts of your body that are stressing you out. If your parents can swing it, ask if you can do a bit of a style refresh before the school year starts back up, and get some clothes that make you feel confident. It sounds cliché, but the way you carry yourself when you feel good makes a huge difference in how people see you.

Above all, remember that this phase of life feels longer than it is. Stressing about your chest is going to be in your rearview before you know it.

13? Calm down. You’ll be be just fine – if your period was 12 then don’t expect them to really come in until 15 or 16. You’re lucky 🙂
