Location: Ohio. This last week I was towing a semi out of the shop I work at and the chain that we use to strap around the frames of these trucks to pick them up snapped while I had a truck in the air. Luckily no one got hurt, but it could have gone seriously wrong. I immediately reported it to all of management afterwards. Only now are they trying to find something more safe to pick trucks up with. From what I understand I think they’re supposed to report stuff like this to OSHA, but with how they’re reacting I doubt that is the case. Should I file a report myself and hope something comes out of it or is there really nothing I can do? I feel vindictive for even thinking about reporting this, but they’ve shown little to no regard for my well-being after the fact and unfortunately, I’m contractually obligated to work here for almost 2 more years.

I would definitely say a report to OSHA is a good call. If you’re truly under contract, you probably have to be fired for cause under the terms of the contract and might have another layer of protection against retaliation that at-will workers might not have. Your life is not worth your job, stay safe
