Hi my mom received a medical summons regarding a mammogram appointment she had last year. My mom has always had insurance so this is very confusing to us. For some background info she had her mammogram last year but was recommended to different place last year due to her regular place no longer taking weekend appointments. My mom said she provided the receptionist with proof of id and insurance when she asked for it. The place is stating they never received any type of insurance and they’ve sent my mom a bill in the mail, which my mom says she’s never received. I honesty just wanna know what the outcome of this is gonna be. And if there’s anyway we can “counter sue” the place she went to for this.

Back up a bit- it sounds like she was billed directly and not through insurance. Why was that? Did her insurance not cover this facility/treatment? What happened when she first received the bill, did she dispute it, or try to run it through her insurance coverage?
Just having insurance doesn’t mean bills get automatically paid (sadly). We all have to track these things. She should talk to her insurance ASAP, once she gets a copy of the bill.
