I’ll try and keep this brief.
I was seeing someone intimately who was in my friend group. I trusted him with things I expected to be kept between us, as consenting adults.
Things got toxic, I dipped, he lost his shit, and I reached out to our friends.
Things in the group started to fall apart for me because of it. I won’t get into the “I’m right, he’s wrong” kind of thing.
My issue is he got his “revenge” on me by sharing text conversations, that were meant to be private, to all or our friends. The worst part is the very intimate and graphic sexts. He kept the images private, but shared everything else. It was a way to shame me, and take my friends away.
It worked.
Is this illegal? Can I di anything to make sure he knows this wasn’t okay, and that he won’t get away with doing this to the next girl?

According the BCs Intimate Images Protection Act (IIPA) and Canada’s already existing legal framework if images or videos were not distributed the only text based illegal action would be if he explicitly threatened to leak or distribute the videos or images in a text. If that threat wasnt made unfortunately there is no recourse but he is a total piece of shit and im sorry that youre going to have to worry about this type of thing in the future as a consenting adult making choices with someone choosing to engage in this time of totally normal interaction. What a fucking loser
