When he attacked her, she bit his tongue off. For that, *she* went to jail. Now, 60 yrs later, justice.

Prosecutors in South Korea have apologised to a woman who was convicted for defending herself during a sexually violent attack more than 60 years ago.

Choi Mal-ja was sentenced to 10 months in prison, suspended for two years, for biting off part of her attacker’s tongue as he allegedly tried to rape her in 1964, when she was 18 years old.

It’s great news to see the shifting tide!

He’s lucky that’s all she bit off. The woman deserved a medal, not prison time.

    >”But if the prosecution is admitting its mistake even now, then I believe justice is alive in this country.”

This woman has an incredible amount of hope, because 60 years is a disgusting amount of time to brand a woman defending herself as a criminal.

    >Choi Mal-ja was sentenced to 10 months in prison, suspended for two years

    >The man was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for two years, for trespassing and intimidation.

    I mean what the fuck?!

    What even was the charge?

If he hadn’t put his tongue in her mouth, she couldn’t have bitten any part of it off.

How does anyone conclude that’s anything other than self defense?

Did they do jury trials in South Korea 60 years ago, or what?

You can call it a small win, but that’s not justice. Not even close. They should be prosecuting anyone who prosecuted her or rendered judgement. Anyone who’s still alive and associated with this clusterfuck deserves jail.

The man who attacked her got a lighter sentence than she did, and didn’t spend a day in jail. Appalling.

I have a few South Korean female friends and the misogyny there is truly vitriolic. They seem to genuinely despise women there.

There was even a period where if your unborn child was female, they’d abort it. Like, insane. I understand completely why 4B movement was created there.

Women can’t do basic shit like game dev without creepy pervs screaming death and rape threats at them for “destroying” their macho bullshit with “woke ideology” or whatever.

It’s a genuine clusterfuck. I feel for South Korean women, I really do.

Unfortunately justice doesn’t exist in Korea, and when it does arrive it’s too little too late. I was forced out of my job because my supervisor found out I wanted to have a baby. I got her on recording saying I wouldn’t be able to stay at the school, the school wouldn’t be able to do maternity leave, etc. And yet the labor ministry rejected my case yesterday. No wonder the birth rate is so low.

    > She said she hoped future generations could live a happy life free from sexual violence.

She must be incredibly horrified at South Korea now.

Korea is such a conservative country, it will take many years for their legal system to change; I feel bad for the women who have to live through this transition period

This is what sucks about self defense. You might get sent to prison for it. Justice systems are worthless sometimes.

Then S. Korea has the audacity to wonder why the birth rate is dying lol. Treat women like criminals for simply protecting themselves and not cracking down harder on the men amongst several other issues…but why no kids?
