Great tip! This can save a lot of time, especially during peak hours.

Damn Europeans being all efficient and caring about public access to history

I’m sorry but what does a handbag/bag got to do with visiting a museum?

  6. SaltAndVinegarMcCoys Avatar

Extremely untrue for certain popular museums. On a busy day you might wait 1-2 hrs to get into a free museum, bag or otherwise.

Secondary LPT: Don’t use the phrase ’fanny pack’ in the UK.

    You mean Indian Museum?

Er … just a word of warning…if you plan on going to a museum (or anywhere else, for that matter) in the U.K., you might want to consult the Oxford Dictionary and read the definition of “fanny” before you use it in public.

    Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

this is one of the very few really useful things I’ve learned on this sub. Thanks!

Mandatory not all museums in Britain have free access, and also not all museums conduct bag checks.

You can go into (most if not all) National museums and see their general collection free of charge. Specific exhibits can have charges. Many private museums will have tickets.

The real LPT: Check before you go whether the museum has free general entry or not.

They won’t see the waterbag filled with red paint under my shirt?

    Since when?

It’s been some time since I was there, but we could just go in with our backpacks.
