Hello, I had an inappropriate interaction at a retail company I worked for 4 years ago. The location I worked at is no longer open but the company is still active. The interaction was the catalyst for my resignation.
I worked at a popular clothing store from
2018-2021. I don’t remember the exact date but I had an interaction with a potential thief.
I’m located in Los Angeles and the store l worked at was not in a great area. We had a lot of theft. I was always instructed to page over the walkie if I found someone acting suspicious and keep my eye on them. On this particular date, (which I mentioned I don’t exactly remember), I had a “customer” come in who was acting very off. I paged over the walkie a couple times but no manager or lead came over to my section. I believed this person was on some sort of drugs due to his erratic behavior. I was keeping an eye out but did not want to make it obvious of course. This person then proceeded to slap my reer end than fled the store with some stolen goods. I immediately paged again saying I was just assaulted and that’s when a manager and lead showed up. My assistant manager at the time said I was able to go home if I felt emotionally distressed, which I definitely did. The rest of my shift was not paid off and nothing else came from it. This caused me to quit because I felt unsafe and felt I couldn’t rely on my managers for support even though I called for it many times.
This was four years ago and I was pretty young at the time so l didn’t press any charges but I was assaulted and the company never even paid me for my whole shift that day. This particular store has closed down but the company still has other locations. There was never an incident report made or anything of that sort. This incident has always stuck with me however and it’s upsetting that there was no follow up.

There is no available lawsuit against the company.
This isn’t something you could sue the company over.
