When I gave birth to my first baby, mil kept insisting to come over to help with caring for baby.
Thing is she kept telling me to sleep and go to my room while she watched baby sleep. She kept telling me and my husband that we needed more sleep.. as in she wanted us to get 8 hours of sleep at least.
She offered to bring food in the initial weeks but it felt like she wanted the job of watching baby sleep and taking care of baby while we slept.
I didn’t need her to watch baby. I didn’t her to feed baby. After all my husband and I were both home and didn’t need to work.
It felt like she was trying to bond with baby before we could. She also became critical. Criticising my diet. Blaming me for everything that went wrong for instance my daughter had eczema when she was two months and mil told my husband that my diet caused the condition. Then she told people that me eating fried food during pregnancy caused it.
My baby couldn’t latch due to a lip tie and she told my husband that I was trying too hard to pump milk and that I should breastfeed instead despite knowing baby won’t latch. She sat there and judge me for everything that I did. She didn’t want baby near my family. She told me husband not to let baby be alone with my mum and sister but at the same time wanted baby alone all to herself.
If she really wanted to help wouldn’t she offer to do house work. To cook more often or to get grocery. Wouldn’t she have more kind.
Anyway that’s my story.
