I’m gonna try to TLDR this because I’m on break.
There was a case in Texas in which I charged someone for assault and after 4 years I was paid restitution and moved on. He was found guilty, I was the victim, done.
Fast forward to 07/25/25- (I now live in Maryland and have moved 3 times since the case above)
I receive a letter in the mail from a law firm in Texas stating that I owe that same court $345. (went to collections and they’re collecting)
I contact the law firm and they have no info the case and direct me to the court.
I contact the court thinking it’s mistaken identity (as my name was spelled incorrectly on the letter and in their system) but they inform me that the person I charged and won against also charged me for assault in the same incident. The court claims to have made multiple attempts at contacting me to arrive at court but every piece of mail they sent was sent right back to them and I never heard about it. No calls, no emails, no texts, nothing.
Frazzled right now so I’ll be more than happy to say more if needed.
