A relative (R) has been living for 20+ years with his (P) partner. About 5 years ago, the partner brought his elderly father into the house owned by R. P acted as the care giver for the father. Unfortunately P has died and R is in poor health and cannot take care of the father who really needs 24 hour care. The father has social security and medical insurance but not much else.
It has been hinted to R by a social worker that R should leave the father at the emergency room as the R has no relation to the father. As the father is more likely to get better care more quickly.
It sounds like terrible, but my R cannot physically or financially take care of the father . There are no other relatives. Are there legal ramifications? P and the father also did not pay rent.
