Please give me legal advice on if there is anything I can do to help my situation. Location: florida. I was hired as a first year teacher. Im also a registered nurse. My juvenile record never shown on any background check I’ve ever done as a nurse and I truly thought everything was dismissed and not on my record. I applied for my first teaching job and was hired but when the background check was done, Pasco county fl put a hold on my hire and i had to send a letter and obtain all my juvenile records for them to review. I feel sick to my stomach that my dream to be a teacher may have ended before even being able to start. I had a bad childhood and acted out, shoplifting, marijuana use and threw a Christmas ornament at my mother and was made to do a program as a juvenile for battery. I honestly blocked out most of my childhood because I was sexually abused by my father and lived a traumatizing life due to my parents drug problems. Certain things I’ve just kept myself from remembering. Long story short is my ged teacher inspired me and I turned my life around at 15. I went to college, got custody of my half sister when I was 21 and she was only 9. I raised her until she turned 18 just last year. I feel so depressed. What are my chances I can still work as a teacher? I didn’t know I needed to disclose my juvenile record. Is it just not meant to be? I can make a lot more money as a nurse but I really wanted to be a teacher. I feel that’s it’s so wrong to use my juvenile record against me when I’m 31 now and have never been arrested as an adult.
