I know nobody is good at something on their first time but I have a feeling that if you are talented at something it’s still visible even on the first time you do it. It just clicks, you understand it better o faster than anyone and with some help and work you can even become the best at it. That’s at least what I have noticed from my friends that do have a talent.
Everybody I have known has either been very good at drawing, photography, any sport, or maybe even a subject etc etc…
I have tried everything, I have tried playing an instrument, singing, drawing/painting, taking photos, different sports, dancing, doing nails/makeup/hair. Literally everything I can think of, maybe even more than I mentioned before, I have tried. Yet at everything I try I’m either terrible at or just not good enough, I’m average. You might think it’s not a big deal but it’s just so tiring when for example a teacher gives us a project and my own best friends goes to pick people who are good at something and she picks me last, or when a teacher wants to plan a school activity and if I raise my hand to join she will look at me and make an awkward face knowing I’m not known to be good at anything.
I’m really passionate about film in general though, everything about it but a dream of mine is to become an actress yet I’m so terrified of putting in work because I don’t want it to end up like the other things I tried where I’ve just gotten disappointed and felt bad about myself.
(Sorry if this was too long for just that single question)

I mean yes… but most people don’t know of or see the practice and the failures to gain enough experience to do it great.
And talent is subjective. Skill level means yes or no that you can do something well.
Ask the Kardashians that
Yup
Sure it is, having no talent is a talent in itself
Umm… it seems glaringly obvious that you need to try acting or, if that’s too intimidating at first, something else about film.
You’re either going to be disappointed that you tried and failed, disappointed that you didn’t try, or ELATED, BECAUSE YOU FINALLY FOUND WHAT YOU ARE GOOD AT.
You haven’t tried everything yet. You haven’t tried the ONE THING YOU REALLY CARE ABOUT.
If it’s the one thing you are passionate about, if it’s your one dream, why WOULD you have succeeded at anything else? Those things weren’t… your things.
Talent is more or less just passion made physical. You won’t ever find a talent, but you will find a passion. Something that clicks with you and comes to you naturally because you have that genuine spark for it! That spark is what makes talent, not the actual task.
You mentioned school and teachers, which makes me think you’re still in school. I know how annoying this is to hear when you’re young, but you have SO MUCH time left. You WILL find a passion! Keep looking into acting! Look into anything that catches your attention! Passion will find you, and talent will follow that passion. Good luck!!
You have to keep practicing and working hard on what your passion(s) are. You can’t just give up on a few failures.
Believe in yourself, and one day, you’ll see growth, improvement, and whatever else you want to see in yourself.
How many thousands of hours did you put into each of those efforts?
People put a lot of time and effort into becoming good at arts like drawing, singing, sports, dancing, acting, etc. It’s very very rare to be good at something right off the bat. Even if you show talent at the beginning, you still have to put years of effort into becoming good.
If you don’t try, you will have regret later. That is worse than trying and getting disappointed.
I know, I have regrets.
You just haven’t discovered your talent yet.
There are so many fields you could outshine others.
Cooking, baking, dog grooming, racecar driving, building things, climbing Mount Everest, flying to the moon.
You’ll find it eventually.
I truly believe talent is the smallest part of the equation and ultimately doesn’t matter. In my life, my success has come through grit, pushing through practise when it’s hard, just practising and practising. I’m now good at things that have not come naturally to me, simply because I refused to quit and got good tuition however it came, from teachers or the internet.
Luck will come into play hugely with acting. You can be an excellent actor but it doesn’t equal success due to the way the industry works. It can be more helpful to choose a pursuit more strategically, where luck/looks/connections perhaps play less of a role. Or you can pursue acting, get really good, do amateur theatre or exams for the love of it.
Some advice, from someone who thought he was completely talentless:
First, talent rarely comes naturally. You have to work at it until you’re good.
Second, comparing yourself to others is like comparing yourself to a broken mirror. You are your own person, and your talents will develop with you.
No artist is born talented…
Every single one developed their talent through thousands of hours of effort.
No wonder some people don’t respect artists. Do people really believe that artists can just magically draw well?
That’s like thinking pro athletes didn’t train their entire lives to be that good, that they just are born that way.
Talent is not real. To be a master at your craft you work your ass off relentlessly until your satisfied.
There are billions of people in the world, very few are top of their fields. The rest of us are trying to be productive and have fun.
You haven’t tried everything. You haven’t tried;
Gardening, astronomy, crochet, architecture, tai chi, criminology, cartography, perfume-making, glass-blowing, being a spy, cake decoration, & on & on.
I found I like making costumes.
You quit before you make enough progress to feel rewarded and develop any passion. Make it past that, and you’ll have a talent. Now you have to improve your talent, which will be more difficult, but your passion leads you. Will you ever be as good as other talented people? Probably not, but it’s possible.
That’s just a story you’re telling yourself and it’s false.
Michael Jordan, the greatest basket player of all time, was not a natural at basketball when he first tried it. Hell, he even got rejected from his school’s basketball team on his first try. He was better at baseball at first.
But he really enjoyed playing basketball. That’s what he liked and was passionate enough about to keep trying to get better and better at it. And that’s what you have to find. You have to find the one thing that you want to keep doing over and over and that keeps making you come back to learn more about your skill and the drive to make it better.
Even picasso’s first baby drawings were shit. No one is immediately talented at something
Very possible. Good friend is in the same boat. Fortunately he’s a hard worker and grinds away at his paperwork job for a great salary.
The old rule of thumb is that it takes 10,000 hours to “master” a skill. A person can have an innate talent but I assure you that the actors one thinks of when they think of masters of the craft, spent ungodly amounts of time on it.
Acting is a profession for those who are able to hear, no, you aren’t good enough and even if you were you don’t look right or have the right voice or whatever.
If you are too timid to work on your craft without experiencing those rejections… then I suggest the first thing you work to master is your self worth.
I wish you well.
The vast majority of people aren’t naturally talented at anything. We aren’t a bunch of special snowflakes. Not do you need to be. Just work at something you find interesting.
What about tic-tac-toe? You might be great at that.
Not possible. Everybody’s good at something. Nobody’s good at everything.
Yes, some people don’t have talents. There are, for example, mentally challenged people that can barely move.
This isn’t to say that people without talents are mentally challenged. It’s just an easy way to prove that talentless people exist.
Perfectly normal people can be perfectly normal at best at anything they do. And that’s fine.
Dude/dudette. You have done a lot of things. But have you ever mastered any of them? What you think of as talent is learned behaviour. Hundreds of hours of doing nothing but the thing. I’m 60, learning to paint, been at it for five years I’ve been ok for 1, and I sucked for 4years. Commit to sucking at it for two years, every day practice. No judging just practice. Look at where you started vs the two years later, then tell me you don’t have a ‘talent’
Have you seen Back to the Future?
Ryan Reynolds made an entire career of being incredibly and almost unbelievably untalented at doing anything other than his very first thought. And I think positive happy thoughts about that person almost everyday so why don’t you get out there and give the world absolutely nothing more than small, curt knee jerk reactions? Man, that made me feel so much better. Thank you for being here with the question today mate.
Yes, not every one is good at everything
Maybe you’re talented at not making just one thing your personality. Maybe your talent is curiosity and openness and experimentation. Maybe your talent is figuring out who you are.
Those are probably great characteristics for an actress.
Actually no! Everyone has one
I believe everyone has at least one talent that they can share with humankind.
I believe that sometimes that talent is hidden, that’s why it’s important to try new things, follow your instincts and chase your dreams.
Not every talent is something that would be displayed on a stage.
Some people’s talent is genuinely making people feel safe and worthy in their presence, no questions asked.
Some people’s talent is helping others find their power and voice to speak up.
Some people are really good at coaching kids in a healthy, supportive way that gets the best out of them and sets them up for success.
Some people are really in tune with animals.
Some people have the strength & stamina to climb mountains and explore.
Some people sing, dance, act, play guitar.
Everybody has something to offer. We just need to find what it is.
Talent is made.
I hate saying “talent”. Talent is just a way to downplay how much effort has been spent to get good at something.
Take something that you like and spend months, years! Practicing.
Yes
In my experience, when you’re passionate about something, you’ll be willing to feel disappointment until you get to a place where you grow. You will get better at anything you stick to, and with enough passion, you will want to get better. Yes, some may start at a higher level of understanding the subject, but it’s the ones who stick around and are willing to grow and put in the time and effort to grow that will flourish. Good luck on your journey and KEEP GOING!
