The state department is calling the contraception “abortifacient birth control” when asked why they won’t just sell it off instead of destroying it.
This is cruel and wasteful in and of itself, but I worry what this means for contraception access across the board going forward.

It’s literally more expensive for the US taxpayer to destroy them than to give them away. Plenty of organizations offered to take and distribute them. It was the same with the food that was destroyed a few weeks ago. It included malnutrition treatment for children! They let it sit in warehouses until it expired, then paid to destroy it, when there were many humanitarian agencies and NGOs willing and able to distribute them to those in need. Absolutely disgusting!
They just told us what this means for birth control. This administration will literally choose to light it on fire, rather than let women have it.
They’re telling you that your birth control is next if you use oral contraception, based on the State Department’s choice of language.

Humanitarian organization are literally offering to buy the supplies so it can still be used. The supposed justification for burning oral and implantable contraceptives (and not condoms) specifically is that they are so called “abortaficients”.

The better option would have been to allow it to be distributed as previously agreed and funded. But they are explicitly choosing not to do this.

Honestly, as someone outside of the USA, I worry what is going to happen to our access to various pharmaceuticals as the USA controls the patents and manufacturing of so many. The only option will be if the rest of the globe decides collectively to not recognise US pharmaceutical patents and decide to manufacture them anyway. This includes a number of psych medications which are manufactured in the USA and export quotas are strictly controlled by the DEA and people like RFK don’t believe in treating those conditions with medication. And then many contraceptive and HRT products are also in the firing line.
They are lying about birth control in about every way possible, telling us that it hurts future fertility, that it causes cancer, that it causes abortions.
I’m beginning to think a sex strike is in order.
Women should just stop having sex with men, and tell them “the Federal government says that birth control is dangerous, and I don’t think you can afford to pay child support.”
The fact that the U.N. offered to buy it and were turned down says it all, really.
