Did I make a mistake in my profession?

r/

I’m F32 and am a high school science teacher. I loved the profession at first and when I tell you I didn’t have a single bad day for the first few years I mean it whole heartedly. I loved every minute of it.

Now, as we’re getting to the youngest casualty’s of the pandemic, the students are (pardon my French) such a**holes and it’s really taking its toll. Not only that, but ever since the pandemic ended so many schools have (in my opinion) got their priorities crooked. Atleast in my area, there’s hardly any arts programs and if their are the funding is so low that the students don’t see value in participating.

Has anyone gone through this in their field? Bonus points if your field is education.

You didn’t fail. The system did. If the joy is gone, go where it still lives.

Mate, totally get where ur coming from. IMO, teaching’s always been a rough gig, ‘rona just cranked it to 11. Kids these days, right? It’s not you, it’s the system, fr. On the bright side, remember you’re shaping future, even if it doesn’t feel that way rn. Hang in there bud, you’re not alone in this. 🙏💪
