WIBTA if I demand to be on lease?Or I’m not paying?

My roommate 26f wants me to pay without being on the lease. I 28f have had a run of bad luck and decided to move in with a girl I’ve known for a little over a year. Was never really close but got along just fine. When I first moved in things were great. Recently they have started to go downhill. I’m not currently on the lease, and she always has excuses for not adding me. This past month has been the worse one so far. She invited over a guy on the 10th, whom she had never met. He never left. The first night he opened my bedroom door numerous times, w/o knocking. The last of which he was completely naked. The following days, all my drinks were gone from the fridge. My roommate was angry that I left a pan in the kitchen and went to work(it was too hot to wash) the next week, everyday I’d clean and it was destroyed. Hair gel on the couch, pans of food in the sink, bags of trash being left for only me to take out. (3rd floor) she has been asking more and more money for rent and this month she wants 700 from me. She sent me a screen shot for the first time. She hasn’t been paying rent on time. There’s a miscellaneous fee for income violation $200. She said she isn’t paying that. Wants me to pay the Wi-Fi bill of 60$ or is changing the password. She moved the tv out of the living room and into her room. She don’t think he new boyfriend should have to pay anything. She’s been talking to my ex and lying about it. She could take my money and tell me to leave. I have no say because I’m not on the lease. What should I do? Not due until the 5th but she is begging me to pay it today on the 2nd.

    Please leave. Move out and get your own place or get a new roommate. Either way you do not need to be living im this unsafe environment.

    Move out as quickly as possible.  

    If you’re paying the rent to her, she may be spending your money and not paying the lease at all.  You could be evicted at any time.  Make other arrangements and ghost her.

    NTA. Given her behaviors, why would you even consider wanting to be added to it? The value of not being on the lease is that you can leave without your landlord’s coming after you.

    I wouldn’t pay at all. You’re not on the lease so you aren’t legally responsible for it. She’s already making your life difficult. Find a new place and she can start the eviction process in she needs to. While you’re looking, a key lock on your door. All you need is to buy the lock and screwdriver. They are easy to install just watch a YouTube video. Keep all your belongings in your room while you are looking for a new place but absolutely don’t pay the rent.

    ESH – she’s treating you awfully and is an AH.
    I debated NTA but being on the lease will make things worse. It won’t change her behaviour or fix things. But it will mean you can’t get out when you want. It will tie you there. 
    You need to find somewhere else to live asap (without telling her you’re looking) and because you aren’t on the lease you can leave whenever you want with no notice.

    You need to move out asap. Don’t pay another dime. You’re not on the lease – you’re not responsible for rent or fees. Move out

    YTA. To yourself. Do not get on a legally binding document to be trapped in this hellscape.

    Please leave. It only will get worse from here. If you don’t have a contract or lease, make plans and dip. Her and her boyfriend can figure it out or not.

    NTA! Do NOT get on the lease. If you do you can be held legally liable for ALL of the rent moving forward, including her rent.
    Landlords go after anyone named on lease for payment, they don’t GAF if you’re only 1/2 renters. It’s called Joint, & several liability. If she leaves, & trashes place, you’ll owe.

    Do you have mail, or with your name associated with the address? If so, put a lock on your door, stop paying, & you can force her to legally evict you. Or, use the leverage of you’re not going to pay to negotiate with her. She’s looking a tad psycho. You should start saving $$ to get out.

    You should move out. That said, in general, you should expect to pay to stay somewhere, whether or not you’re on the lease. You don’t get to stay for free, even if you have legit complaints, as you do.

    Sounds like not being on the lease is an incredible blessing. You need to get out of there before that creepy boyfriend assaults you. Rooming with a random would be miles better than this.

    you need to find another place to live. and a different roommate . do not get on the lease or you will wind up paying for an unlivable place.

    Move.

    She is not going to stop being vindictive and passive aggressive even if you get a lease.

    At this point a lease is going to tie you to this awful situation.
