Wearing used, clean underwear shouldn’t be a big deal.

r/

Basically the title. I never understood the disgust when it comes to the thought of wearing someone else’s underwear. As long as it’s clean & not gross, what’s the issue? If someone wants to shower at your house, are you not going to provide a washcloth or a towel? I mean, they touch the same areas & also get cleaned for re-use.

Edit- clearly this an unpopular opinion lol. I’m not saying you should go out of your way to wear other people’s underwear. Can’t believe I have to clarify that… but it’s not going to kill you if you have to.

I been through financial struggles so I understand you got to do what you got to do. If all you can afford is used underwear and if you cleaned them throughly then you do you.

If I can afford it I will buy brand new underwear cause I know for a fact myself and other people out there trusted a fart that shouldn’t be trusted.

If its one thing I can’t and won’t cheap out on its having a clean pair of drawers

  4. voltagestoner Avatar

Okay, so, there’s placing a lot of faith in hygiene and stuff. And then there’s also half the population not only bleeds onto the underwear sometimes, but their discharge also basically eats up the fabric overtime. Cuz acidity, and stuff. Not to mention, everything that comes out of that area are considered biohazards regardless.

  5. ZaneFreemanreddit Avatar

I agree it’s not THAT bad, but if I’m in a position where I need to be using second hand underwear I don’t think I’d care if it’s clean

  6. SparkleSelkie Avatar

My friends and I all borrow a pair of clean underwear from time to time if we crash at someone’s house or whatever. Like if it’s been through a wash and dry it’s fine

  7. Lord_Shadowfire Avatar

Okay, I was a little confused at first, and I was like, “Whaaaaa?”

But you’re right. If you clean it thoroughly, give it a good bleaching, and sanitize it, there’s no reason not to. People just get weird about it.

  8. RhatramDoober Avatar

This is why I wear my moms underwear

  9. militant_rainbow Avatar

I cut 2 extra holes in mine so 4 holes total. After each day I just rotate my leg into the next hole clockwise. Get 4 uses this way before changing them

If you go to a hotel, salon, spa or whatever, they’re required to use a chemical disinfectant, usually bleach, on the towels and bedsheets cause blood.

    Underwear generally isn’t bleached.

I just don’t understand a situation where this will happen

Most people do not think it is weird to wear laundered underwear someone wore previously.

Not just those who have unexpected sleepovers either.

I have seen certain vintage styles from the 40s through the 70s close at crazy high prices on eBay…frilly uncomfortable synthetic stuff but I guess the buyers think it looks sexy.

people also buy vintage corsets for quite high prices sometimes.

Context. Growing up towels in my home were communal so someone using one of my clean towels doesn’t feel gross.

Underwear was never communal so someone wearing mine feels like a weird form of intimacy I didn’t agree to.

  14. SecretScavenger36 Avatar

I’d rather wear nothing. If I’m not in a relationship with them then I don’t want anything their bits touched on me. People don’t clean themselves right and a washing machine only does so much.

For men, it’s fine to rewear undies for a couple of days. It’s much less fine for women, just because discharge smells, gets crusty overnight, and damages the underwear. Women shouldn’t be rewearing their panties unless they wear a panty liner daily.

  16. kokotzer Avatar

im not putting someone else’s underwear anywhere near my vagina 🤢

What situation led you to post this?

  18. Bank-Angle747 Avatar

This must’ve happened a lot to warrant a whole post, no?

Where do you acquire used underwear? Asking for a friend…

  20. EggplantCheap5306 Avatar

It is just unnecessary. Also a towel is barely what tapped on just washed area, versus an underwear that is worn while sweating/bleeding/farting and so on. Yes laundry is a thing, but I wash my toothbrush between uses and still don’t want to share it. Some things are just unnecessary, sharing of personal things like that, in my opinion is unnecessary. Thus someone taking a decision to do it, makes me question their boundaries and what else they would do and find okay.

If it’s my mother’s…ok. Other people, noooooo 🤮

  22. euphorixina Avatar

Sharing under wear I cross the line. As kids my mom barely brought us bc poverty.. any we stole from stores was like, always gold dust to us and we’d try hide the few in the house from each other. As a adult there’s just no way using someone else’s underwear could be ok, as siblings we did it out of necessity but adults can make it work to not share

  23. DJ4116 Avatar

In my 36 years of living, I’ve never needed to wear someone else’s underwear.

I’d rather go without. Just the thought is nauseating….

  24. MxQueer Avatar

In my country in army (only practicing, we’re not in war) you get underwear too. You give them away weekly for laundry and receive different ones. Army is mandatory for cis men without reasons why not (there are lot of reasons). So, big part of people here have used used underwear.

I just wonder most of the clothing are not army quality. So you probably wash yours in lower temperature. Does that make any difference or is 40°C enough to kill STDs and infections (or maybe simply water and soap is enough, I have no clue)?

  25. Joubachi Avatar

Normally there is no reason to – but I think in some situations, it is absolutely fine. It’s a piece of fabric that can be washed and cleaned properly. I just honestly hope that there aren’t many instances in which people are “forced” to do that and get into better situations. Cheap underwear might still be better than this, being unable to afford even new one sounds like a horrible situation to be in…

  26. Rolex_throwaway Avatar

OP, those are not the same thing.

  27. orsodorato Avatar

Just flip them bitches inside out and then order another Jack Daniels

  28. Oxjrnine Avatar

On a side note. If a woman wears her man’s boxers all day she is considered romantic, but if a man wears her panties all day every one calls him a freak.

  29. distracted_x Avatar

One time when I was a teenager I was getting ready for school and had no clean underwear and I grabbed a pair of my grandma’s (who I lived with) because it was either that or dirty or no underwear. I’m not saying I would purposely do it again but I also didn’t die of some crazy someone else’s underwear infection.

  30. Chewbacca319 Avatar

If it’s a one time thing or circumstantial like you alluded to in your post (accident at a friend’s house etc.) then sure totally justifiable to wear someone else’s “clean” used underwear.

Aside from that though theres a reason even why most places like value village don’t accept underwear (bottoms specifically) to be resold.

Even if you’re extremely poor basic no frills underwear is dirt cheap and most shelters will provide you with clean ones. What a weird fucking post

  31. Girl_Power55 Avatar

I’d buy one new pair and wash them every night before I’d buy used underwear.

  32. likerunninginadream Avatar

Omg how did we get here as a society?

  33. Nimue_- Avatar

I have seen underwear with bloodsmears that just never really came out so i just do not believe it is ever really a 100% as clean as new underwear

  35. Federal-Estate9597 Avatar

Haven’t worn underwear in 5 years lol.

    I don’t sweat often and when I do, i don’t stink.

  36. 1heart1totaleclipse Avatar

If you really need to and you’re a man, then I would say that it’s fine. Being a woman though, it definitely wouldn’t be my first choice because our bodily fluids are constantly staining our underwear. I’m personally too much of a germaphobe to do that.

  37. zookeeper4312 Avatar

Are you talking like, picking some underwear off the floor at a party, sniffing it shrugging and putting it on, or like hand me downs? Big difference

  38. CompletelyBedWasted Avatar

Used underwear is never clean. But, you gotta do what you have to do.

  39. Pfannekuchenbein Avatar

unless we fucking you not gonna shower at my house so hell nah you wont be getting a towel etc here

  40. Vegetable_Reveal_357 Avatar

when distributing underwear in Navy bootcamp, you would be surprised how many grown mens underwear had permanent skid marks in the tighty whities. Even after cleaned, still there….That is all…
