Do right handed people who write in Arabic or other right-to-left scripts constantly smear the writing with their arm?

r/

One common complaint of left handed writers of Latin script is that their left arm runs across the writing so if the ink is wet, the writer smears their writing and gets a stain on their clothes.
Right handed people who are the majority of the population don’t have this problem writing a language like English. Do the majority of people who write Arabic, Hebrew or other right to left scripts smudge their work?

That’s actually a fairly interesting question that I’ve never really considered.

I am right-handed and whilst not Arab, or Pakistani, when I was younger I did learn to write (although not understand) both Arabic and Urdu. Arabic especially, I would wrote with either a calligraphic pen or a fountain pen, as the nibs would help much better with the letters as they would be both thick and thin depending on the parts of the letters.

I never noticed my arm smearing across the ink, except for the knuckle on my little finger which somehow used to always end up coated

Interesting. I’ve written left to right and right to left all my school life but never had that issue
