Overwhelmed. Like if there’s a lot going on around me, I get anxious and concentrate on anything.

Fidgeting, picking, emotional, panicky, pacing, and shut down are some.

Distracted and anxious. They want to leave where they are. They need to “reset” and may need volume reduced. They might plug their ears or run hands through hair. They might breathe heavier or sigh or have an anxious tick like foot tapping or nail picking. Speech may seem distracted and unfocused.

Giving the shortest answers required to make it through a conversation with minimal engagement is one I really wish more people would pick up on. I get overstimulated from loud noises easily and people will scream talk when I’m speaking at not even half their volume and wonder why I don’t want to participate.

For me it’s getting fidgety and starting to get anxious. I lose the ability to focus on anything other than getting out of there as soon as possible,  which weirdly makes me seem hyper focused because I’m just paying attention to the reason I’m there (or getting out of where I am) and nothing else.  Eventually I’ll develop a headache and have a panic attack.

I usually figit a lot, get easily frustrated/irritated and shut down. I also get very distracted, anxious and find it very hard to focus or concentrate

The funniest thing in this thread is that instead of answering “what are signs of A person being overstimulating” everyone is answering with their own experiences of overstimulation

One of the most uncomfortable feelings ever but probably feeling super hot for no reason, being agitated, wanting to be alone in the moment

For me, I start playing with my hair a lot; taking it out of its hairtie, finger combing it, tying it back up, running my fingers through it and kind of pulling it.

I’ll also start chewing my fingers and cracking my knuckles.

My shoulders will start to tense up and lift.

My face gets expressionless or my jaw will be clenched. I’ll roll my head, trying to crack my neck and loosen my shoulders up.

    I’ll be fidgety and stim.

I start to shutdown and stop being able to hear people talking to me because the noise in my head takes up all my attention.

For me it’s like, looking like I just saw someone get murdered and I’m in shock. I’m like staring at whatever is in front of me and I’m out of it pretty much. I have ADHD.

Groaning, pacing, taking sunglasses and headphones on and off

Hand flapping, going non-verbal, constantly looking around desperately, burying face in arms, covering ears, wanting to escape the situation.

They shut down, and try to withdraw from any further interaction.

Running hands through hair. If you’re with me and I let my hair down so I can braid it, twist it, play with it, tuck it behind my ears, tie it back up, shake it out and eventually twist it into a messy knot then odds are I’m overstimulated and on the verge of an anxiety attack.
