[Monster Hunter] So what exactly does the guild do with captured monsters?

r/

I was out for a bit of a trek earlier when I heard a commotion in the distance. Despite my better judgement, I decided to get closer to watch. I arrived just in time to watch as a Hunter duo managed to shock and sedate a fully grown Rathalos. I decided to ask one of them why they had trapped it, and they said that the Guild would want it “for research purposes”. I would’ve pried more, but they seemed pretty worn down and I doubt they’d want to answer my questions. (That, and they’re honestly kind of intimidating. The dude I briefly talked to had a sword larger than he was, made out of something I couldn’t even recognize.)

I thought I should ask here; Just WHAT does the Guild do with these monsters they capture? I know they study them or something, but for what purpose? Do they store them long-term somewhere? Do they get euthanized after they’re studied? Are they let free?

Or is there something else going on? Are they just using the “research” as a front for something more nefarious, like poaching and butchering monsters? Or worse, are they trying to breed them, or even weaponize them?
I mean, I trust the guild, they’ve been keeping the area I live stable and safe. I’m just a bit concerned as to why they’re capturing monsters in the first place, or what happens to the monsters after that.

The guild studies them. Those that can be tamed are. Those that can’t be are released back into the wild. Some are kept for training fights against new hunters but that’s a rare exception.
