50x your net worth but you must live in a poor and violent country.

r/

If you’re already from a poor and violent country, you are sent to an even poorer country.

If you have less than 6 months salary in savings, you get 100x your yearly post tax salary instead

What country would you choose and why? What would you do with your life and money?

Edit: You are automatically made a citizen of the country you go to, and the government protects you from getting killed or robbed for 30 days while you get settled in.

I mean you’d just do what the 1% in those countries already does: private security, gated compounds, armoured limousines etc.

    Not too hard really

What is a poor and violent country? Do you have some examples?

Cambodia. It’d be nice to live in a country where I belong to the religious majority. I live a quiet life teaching English to anyone who wants to learn.

Shit I live in Flint, MI so I basically already do!!!

Do I get to pick the poor and violent country?

    Does Brazil count?

I already live in the US which is poor and violent, so I guess the next step down might be Russia?

50 times a negative is negative. I’ll pass.

Net worth doesn’t just account for your savings but also things like annuities and trusts. So I’m looking at being nearly a billionaire.

You specified Violent so I can’t just choose my go to for these things in Vietnam.

With all that in mind, I’m going to Jamaica.

I’ll talk to the government and basically offer them a deal wherein I pay no taxes and get to do whatever the fuck I want, and in exchange I sink 60 to 100 million into hiring mercenaries to come in and clean out their organized crime and then funding the rebuilding of their economy and their national Police

Then I spend another 100 million starting a luxury vacation resort and a rum distillery so I can have a steady source of income.

Then I relax with some Caribbean Kush on the beach at my private villa.

Socialist governments (21th century communists) protect private citizens for money. They make you untouchable and you’ll be living like a Rockstar.

I’ll probably choose Cuba: Amazing beaches, tropical weather and literally ANY product you need from the US is smuggled into the island on a daily basis.

I’m not fully convinced that the OP is sufficiently aware of international politics, or the living standards and conditions of enough countries, or their various regions, to appropriately define what qualifies one as “poor and violent.”

    Maybe I’m wrong.

    I certainly hope so.

I’d move from Ireland to Northern Ireland…easy.

Define “live in a poor country”…

Like can I vacation 100% of the time and not actually go to my “home”?

Philippines I guess. It’s a poor country and many violent insurgences happening in the southern part of the country. It’s so bad that you get travel warnings and such if visiting such areas due to kidnapping, murder among other things. Definitely worse than Canada. But since the prompt doesn’t say I need to live in that part of the country (just move to a poor and violent country), and I think I definitely fulfill the requirements, I’ll just move to a nicer part of Philippines and enjoy my wealth.

Ill take it. Philiphines is considered poor and violent compared to where I live now. Also , either the 100x or 50x would put me in a solid 20Million+ USD. With that money I would live very comfortably in the PI

  19. firefoxjinxie Avatar

I’d probably choose a country like Mexico or Costa Rica. I already know Spanish and with that amount of money I could live like a Queen in a secure compound with private security.

No problemo, being rich is the same everywhere, I have no issue being a wealthy recluse and I know to keep my mouth shut about the local Supreme Leader, so I would just live in my own cuddly bubble, away from all the bad things

That’s pretty great, actually. Im.an American so I have a ton of options.

Anywhere in South America. Buy a house in a gated community in the nice upscale side of town of whatever city you pick.

Some places in Africa are super chill, Kenya, for example, is pretty poor, certainly by American standards but some very friendly communities.

Erbil, Northern Iraq, they love expats and kurds are very welcoming and friendly. I never once felt unsafe there other than going through the sketchy checkpoints to go between towns. But you just hire a well-respected taxi service, and they got connections with all sketchy guard posts and get you through without hassle.

My point is a lot of these poor or bad or crime ridden towns have expat villages or upscale communities for tourists and their countries wealthy members.

Somewhere in SE Asia, depending on the country I’ll probably just use my new found wealth to move to a safer country.

So you’re saying I can become a warlord. Sweet. Wasn’t on my career bingo card but I guess I’m not opposed. I might even be a benevolent warlord. And maybe a philosopher. So I could spend a lot of time thinking about the paradox of being a benevolent warlord.

If Mexico counts I’d move there in a heartbeat

  27. moonpuzzle88 Avatar

I’d go to the US with around $100m.With that kind of money, I could try to buy influence within the government (not on Elon’s level, but enough to buy me some favours).

  28. Anning312 Avatar

China, if it doesn’t count then anywhere in SEA

  29. No_Lavishness_3206 Avatar

That would put me into mid 8 figures.  There are very nice places to live everywhere with that kind of money.

You also didn’t mention that I couldn’t leave.

Take a month to set up a household in an enclave so I “live” in that country.

Then travel for the rest of my life.
