Max Factor pancake makeup.
Literally the only makeup for stage performers in the US for decades, my whole childhood of performing required this specific foundation, then they just…stopped selling it in the US.
One small disk of the makeup was going for $150 on eBay after it was discontinued here, and we had no choice but to pay that.
I wrote to Max Factor to express how crucial this make up was for my profession, and I got a form email back that said “we hope you like our Cover Girl products!” (Cover Girl does not sell theatrical pancake makeup.)
I can’t express how much this changed my life, I have stopped performing entirely, it would be like if you played the clarinet in the symphony for living and they stopped making reeds entirely, just stopped selling them, so you could no longer do your job.
(This is why stage performers in the US look powdery and ashy, but didn’t in the 1990s, we no longer have normal theatrical pancake makeup due to this one company’s decision to just end it.)
My friend group.
The tire swing from my childhood home. Some other kid could be having a ton of fun with that, but the whole tree is gone.

Reading a book back by the creek that ran through our property.
The expectation of remaining anonymous while online.
Irresponsibility and freedom
Drive-in movie theaters! When I was a kid my parents would take us to the drive-in, a double feature, in our pajamas. They would back our van into the parking space and open the back doors.
My brother and I could fall asleep during the second feature that was usually for grown ups.
Such great memories! 😊
An omelette takeaway that was near where my uncle lived and when I got to stay with him he used to get us one for supper
Stickers with smell. Still remember those banana stickers my friends had.
Unconditional happiness

I’m indian. We used to get these red straws filled with a sweet spicy powder filled in. It’s called anardana churan. It was gross and delicious
My grandparents
Movies and TV shows that weren’t remakes or reboots.
There was a specific local tiny ice cream shop in town that was only open May-September and it was so exciting when they opened up for the season and so sad when it was the last few weeks. Every visit was magical. They shut down a few years ago and I miss them every time I drive by the carcass. 😔

Corner market before it was a Starbucks. Empty lots for community events before they were coldstone/subway combos.
Innocence .
My grandma used to write me actual letters and put Suzy’s Zoo stickers on her already cute stationery. I miss all of that.

I mean they still exist, but no one uses them anymore

Proper winters. I miss snow at Christmas.
The ability to sleep in weird positions and wake up fine. Now, if I sleep in any position, I wake up feeling stiff/sore.
My cousin Mark.
$5 footlongs
Things that you could fix when they broke
Burger King’s chicken tenders. They were like, longer chicken nuggets and the breading was so peppery. I’ve been craving them for years! They got rid of them when they introduced chicken fries. 🙁
Also, I distinctly remember these frozen breakfast treats my parents used to give me and my brother on special occasions. They were just like Little Debbie Honey Buns, but from the freezer section, and you had to microwave them to serve them. They were soooo good but they don’t make them anymore. I don’t even remember what brand they were!
…maybe I’m just missing these things because I’m 15 weeks pregnant and all I can think about is food haha

Not knowing depression and being able to freely live in the moment
Sobes drink 😭😭
Having a structured life. I thrive on a schedule but can’t make my own to save my life
Haha is it bad to say my grandma?
The McDonald’s breakfast tray that has pancakes, sausage, egg, and bacon with a pot of syrup!

Mighty Men and Monster Maker. God i miss that thing.
Those Philadelphia cheesecake bars that were in the freezer section.
Also having a functional pancreas. Diagnosed with diabetes at 9 and it kind of killed my childhood in a lot of ways. The freedom of not having food rule my life in one way or another happened overnight. Now between diabetes, overall nutrition, losing weight, having to make food daily, grocery store shopping…it’s an annoying constant.
This one really good kid’s pudding from my country (Finland) they stopped making it when I was like, 6. I only got to taste it once and it was so good.
Single serving Nestle chocolate pudding in a can with the pop top.
Leaps and bounds. Owned by McDonald’s. Not necessarily small. But a big playground of just McDonald’s style playgrounds all combined.
