So yesterday my neighbors were having a really bad fight downstairs and eventually he hit his wife SO HARD that i could hear it! And she was SCREAMING that she needed her mom or to go to the hospital, eventually i hear a struggle of her leaving the house and her running to the neighbors. Someone threatened to call the police but they never did so i did (because during this time i called my friends about what was happening so duration of that time i knew the police weren’t coming) and so the cops came and talk to the guy but they didn’t do anything and let him off because apparently the wife alr left to her moms house or something (i understand that cops can only do so much but still kinda mad they didn’t do more like so much as giving him a warning) and so i told my sister and she came to grab me from there bc she was worried and the next day (today) i talked to my mom about it and she got mad at me for calling the police! She said id get charged for calling ( all calls are free, taxes pay for them. If you call an ambulance thats when they charge) and that i shouldn’t have budded in, but i was really worried because the wife sounded like she was dying and she was calling for help and when he hit her it sounded REALLY BAD!
But am i in the wrong for calling the cops?? Should i have not called? Idk i feel like id feel bad if i did or didn’t…

Your mom is wrong. You can call the cops. You had a very good reason to do so. None of this will come back on you from the police.
You were not wrong. He made it your business by being loud enough for everyone to hear. Even though nothing was accomplished, it was documented and will back her up if she has the strength to file charges.
Ask your mom if she’d like everyone to “mind their own business” if it was you being attacked. Seriously tho, what is wrong with these older women of a certain generation?🙄You absolutely did the right thing and your mom’s “take” is exactly why women today continue to not come forward and expose abuse. She should know that too.
