joaquin phoenixs joker is genuinely not good

r/

Everyone glazes this movie to hell and back when it’s not even a Joker film the guy in the movie isnt even the joker

The Joker as a character at his core can be summed up by “some men just want to watch the world burn” he’s bad shit INSANE but he’s calculating, cunning, strategic, and overall brilliant.

This movies joker was just “what happens when a mentally handicapped man whos been kicked around stops taking his medication” I feel like it has
Nothing to do with the Joker or DC. Just a mid ass random story.

His city wide anarchy and chaos weren’t cause by calculated moves or strategic planning just the plot said so. he didn’t go on the show and bad mouth that important beloved dead guy and shoot the TV host to destroy the city and bring society to its knees. He did it because his feeling are hurt and he wanted pay back… LAME

The characters itself is not even the Joker or a representation of the Joker. HES JUST A ACTUAL RETARD and please note I mean retard in the most literal by definition context. Not as a vulgar insult. JPs joker was actually mentally retarded he was like an adult with the mental capacity of a 10 year old

Bad movie.

Actor did great though.

I agree. This movie did nothing for me. It was a poor copy of Taxi Driver.

I think the Joker movies were great. But I do agree that they kinda diluted the character by making a million movies about him and each story gives the guy a vastly different background. So now he didn’t get a white face and green hair because he fell in chemical water, but because he was a mentally ill clown and used makeup after going crazy?

If someone would ask me to explain the joker, I’d have to ask “which Joker?”. And that just seems weird.

You could build a really decent argument as to why the Dark Knight trilogy is a terrible adaptation of the Batman comic, as well as Heath Ledgers Joker, but it doesn’t mean it’s not amazing for what it is.

Same goes here – it’s just a different interpretation, and maybe it’s not perfect but it’s definitely decent and well made.

I’d have to downvote you because I agree, but damn do I feel this.

“We live in a society” as a movie.

Not at popular view, but not unpopular.

I agree, it was obvious to me this wasn’t designed as a Joker movie. There was a story the director wanted to tell, and just put in some very light Batman lore just to sell it to WB.
