I (24m) was driving home to Indiana from Iowa city and got certifiably carried away at 3am while on interstate 80. I was pulled over and radared at 109mph in a 70. The state trooper informed me pretty quickly that I will be making it home tonight, but not without a ticket. He was very casually and seemed more concerned about my safety overall, but I know a misdemeanor is nothing to scoff at. I was given a mandatory court date and told that the penalties of my violation are up to $2500 in fines and up to a year in county jail. This is my first ticket ever and I know am and absolute idiot for actions. I live almost 2 hours from my mandatory court appearance and I have seen advice about not lawyering up until after my initial court appearance. I am wondering what course of action I should consider and wether or not real jail time is a possibility?
Thank for any and all help, I know I endangered myself and others and need to reevaluate my driving habits

You should call an attorney Monday morning. Have them represent you at all of the hearings, including the initial court appearance. It’s not the kind of thing you want to wait around on … having a misdemeanor conviction can follow you around for a long time.
