I need to know if I am in the wrong for this and know if I have a reason to be upset about all of this or am I just being overly sensitive. To preface this I have never done this before or anything like this at any point in my time with this doctor and I live in a small town and it’s normal to get any doctor related stuff done within half a day at most. So, I had an appointment with my doctor this past Tuesday and we talked about what pharmacy to send it to in detail (mentioned multiple times and confirmed at the end of appointment). The doctor still sent it to the wrong pharmacy. So after multiple calls to get this changed on Friday before they closed it was not done. My state is super strict about controlled meds and follow it to the letter so to speak. Not to mention my insurance will cover it once every month only. So if the wrong pharmacy dispenses the medication that’s it until the next month. So I had to get it switched to the right pharmacy. (Walgreens vs CVS) the brands used at one pharmacy don’t work at all due to the generic manufacturer. The FDA allows generic medications to use anywhere up to a 20% difference in the active ingredients when creating the generic medicines. This is a huge issue for the type of medicine I use. This is where I may be in the wrong. So I called the after hours number to speak to the doctor to change the pharmacy before it gets processed. It was 5pm by this point. He returned my call within 30 minutes but was clearly annoyed and very rude telling me that I should have told him before he put it in. I tried to politely remind him that I did and I also apologized multiple times for the after hours call and explained the problem with insurance etc. Was I wrong for calling after hours in this situation? And am I in the right for being upset in his response to this?

OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the asshole:
> I only realized the wrong pharmacy was used on Friday and called after hours even though it wasn’t technically an emergency situation.

NTA. Had this happened to me, I would not have apologized because, it seems, the mistake took place in his office. I’ll guess that someone on his staff — not the doctor — sent the Rx to the pharmacy
Next time that you go see him, take your instructions in writing. Give them to his nurse as well as to him.
NTA
This person may have gone to school longer than you, but they work for you and you gave them instructions to follow more than once.
NTA.
The after hours number is available for after hours access which is what you needed. It’s not a personal call, it’s not an emergency phone line, and it’s not wasting anyone’s time. My doctor charges a lot for after hours appointments, does yours?
Yeah, his office screwed up all over the place. Not your fault.
NTA – he will charge your insurance carrier for the time anyhow.
NTA. You didn’t cause this, it was a mistake made within his office that could cause you a lot of issues. It’s on him to fix it. It was time-sensitive so you had no choice but to call after-hours. Don’t feel bad, you did what you had to do.
NTA. Sometimes you can’t please people while also getting your needs met. This was an emergency, whether or not your doctor had enough empathy or bandwidth to acknowledge it as such.
NTA. I work at a doctor’s office. He is the one who messed up, and if you needed the medication asap, then that’s the point of the after hours number.
NTA – If the doctor fails to follow your request and then fails to follow through with correcting the mistake during normal business hours, that’s on her/him.
Remember, the way people treat you often has very little to do with you.
NTA sounds like you’re a people pleaser, honestly I am too, and went way further than needed to be polite about the doctor making a mistake. He, or his office, messed up and instead of acknowledging that and apologizing to you, he blamed you for the inconvenience, then you apologized to him for it. I absolutely agree you’re more likely to get help by being nice, than rude, but you definitely weren’t the AH for asking him to fix the mistake.
