For a few years I gamed with this group. Let’s call him Bob (fake name)
He claimed to be an “elite sniper” in the marines. That he had “inside sources.”
The group also had me, (former navy) and a former tank operator from the army. Now the former tank operator I KNOW embelished his stories, but I could tell he wasn’t just shit talking and he was definitely in the army and I was able to literally verify 2 of the events he described one of which his name was quite clearly attached to.
But this supposed elite sniper… I was certain was full of shit.
Anyways, there was a news article I discussed with him regarding the Chinese hack of the government payroll system and their usage of that to uncover huge numbers of our covert operatives a few years back.
3 weeks later this dumbass is discussing it with the group saying his “secret sources” had told him this.
I called him out on the spot. I brought up the fact that I had told him about it and that it was a newspaper article. I also brought up other “secret info” he had told us and showed the news articles.
Didn’t go very well since he was my ride and refused to drive me anymore. But honestly a lot was going on at that table and I was fine with it.

NTA. Faking government info is lame and stolen valor is outright wrong. Willing to bet he actually had a support mos but because “every marine is a rifleman” he embellishes and says he was a sniper.
