AITA for not waiting outside?

r/

So I (20F) don’t drive because of medical history(A form of narcolepsy). Today is Pride for my town and my entire friend group all go every year. (Before any asks, I live in a college town so the city holds off on throwing Pride until the college students get back)

I’m from the Midwest and it’s hot, and humid and I don’t wanna be outside while I’m just standing around waiting for my friends to come pick me up. So I wait inside my house, literally right next to the door and I watch my cameras so when they pull up, I can just walk out and lock my door and go to the car. It takes a total of a minute, if that.

Today, there was a new girl in our group, one of my friend’s coworkers(like 22ish F) called A. Aa soon as I got into the car, A immediately says, “You really should be waiting outside. It’s rude to keep people waiting like that”. I’m not exactly confrontational so I just shrug and someone else changed the subject.

I get if I left them waiting for awhile but it’s a minute? I have my shoes on and everything ready. Is that rude??

    > I might be TA because I don’t wait outside. I definitely could start doing it but I just wanna get an outside opinion.

No, that’s not rude at all. You were ready to go and stepped out as soon as they arrived it’s not like you made them sit there waiting.

A was just projecting her own idea of etiquette, but honestly, standing outside in the heat when you don’t need to is unnecessary. You handled it fine.

NTA. You waited inside your house because it was hot outside. I cannot see how that is ever a problem, given you were waiting for them to show up. One of my friends, if you turned up, you’d be waiting three hours for him, not a minute. That got annoying. But waiting a minute is no problem.

NTA. You were waiting by the door. The difference between you waiting inside by the door and waiting outside is probably 30 seconds. They weren’t sitting outside in the car for more than a minute or two, so you didn’t “keep them waiting.” Waiting inside when the weather is hot (or cold, or rainy) is perfectly reasonable.

However, it’s rude as heck for her to tell you what to do.

NTA Friend’s coworker needs to pipe down and keep her unsolicited opinion to herself.

NTA – “A” needs to find another way to feel.

NTA – would “A” have said the same thing if it was torrential rain? Probably not

Sounds like they just wanted something to make a comment about, and if you had waited outside, they’d have found something else to complain about lol

Sounds to me like A probably waited outside in the heat and perhaps waited a while for the others (not necessarily because they were late, she might have been early) and was annoyed at you for not having the courtesy to go through the same suffering by being outside early for the pick-up… NTA, you weren’t being rude, just practical.

NTA! She is totally rude. She doesn’t even know you and she’s telling you how to behave.

  13. Interesting_Road_700 Avatar

NTA she’s new to the friend group and is acting like an asshole. She needs to be put in her place. Your friend (her coworker) should have told her to stop talking.

Next time you go out ask your friend is she’s coming and if so she needs to keep her comments to herself.

NTA I would have said, “Im sorry, what’s your name again?” She needs to stay in her lane
