I have a car, most of my friends don’t. At first I didn’t mind giving rides because we all hang out and it’s whatever. But one friend in particular started texting me constantly, even on days I wasn’t going out. She’d ask me to drive her to the gym, to work, to see her boyfriend. She never offers gas money, never says thank you, just assumes I’ll do it. Last weekend she texted me at 7am asking for a ride to the airport. I told her no, I was sleeping in and had plans later. She flipped out and said I’m selfish and that friends are supposed to be there when you need them. Now a couple of people in our group are saying I was petty for not just driving her because it was important. I feel like I was being used and finally set a boundary.
AITA?

nta. why can’t her boyfriend drive her? she can take the bus or an actual uber
NTA. Your vehicle, your rules.
NTA.
NTA
You obviously need to have an open conversation with this friend to tell her why you are no longer giving her rides to wherever she needs to go. If she says she will chip in for gas, get it before you take her. She has come to rely on your generous nature and you need her to understand you have a limit, and she has reached it.
Good Luck
NTA – if it was important, she could have asked you in advance for a ride. But it does sound like she’s taking advantage.
NTA
Ask those “friends” why they are so selfish they aren’t paying her important Uber rides?
What the hell. No rides whatsoever. Even if she pays for gas. It’s your time , your effort and your rest that you are sacrificing. She is not a friend. Block her.
nta wtf, i got a car for the first time 2 months ago (im 24) so before that i WAS the friend with no car. its her job to get to her responsibilities, uber exists and i used to walk almost everywhere. i made a point to try to never rely on my friends for rides because i respect our friendship and dont want to use my friends for personal gain. sometimes its an emergency and sometimes friends did me a favor when they werent busy. but thats all it was, a FAVOR. also id ALWAYS offer gas even if they say no. in this economy, not offering gas is rude as fuck lowkey
NTA!
Nta A friend would not treat you like a free taxi and that is exactly what she is doing to you. She knew she had a flight out and waited till early morning on the day of her flight and expected you to drop your plans to cater to her and her plans. That is not friendship. Drop her.
NTA. It’s your friend’s responsibility to figure out how to get places without driving
NTA. Why are you waking up just to tell people you’re sleeping? 😂
NTA. If it was important, she should have asked you beforehand if you would be available and could do it. That way, she would have been easily able to make alternate arrangements when you said you wouldn’t be available that day. Her failure to plan does not create an emergency on your part. You’re neither a taxi company nor her chauffeur, so expecting you to be at her beck and call is absurd.
NTA, and if your selfish friends think it’s your job to make sure this one friend gets rides, they can drive her. Also, if you do drive this friend again, tell her in advance you’ll be asking for gas money for every trip.
If my wife asked for a ride to the airport at 7am with no notice, I’d tell her to get an uber. A friend!? Not happening.
NTA – Stop driving her unless you are going the same place.
I would have texted a local cab company number to her
NTA.
>Now a couple of people in our group are saying I was petty for not just driving her because it was important.
Well, they can put up some money for her ubers! I mean, since they are so concerned.
If it was important she shouldn’t have woken you up last minute assuming you’d do it. If it’s important she can call a cab. If it’s important she can take the bus.
Even if she did pay for gas and thank you every time you’re ont her personal chauffer, you don’t owe her driving her anywhere any time at the drop of a hat.
NTA. Stop being a doormat for your supposed “friends”.
Stop. Driving. Her. Anywhere!
Let the friends who are complaining about you give her rides.
It’s time to stop giving rides to your friends. They are taking advantage of you.
Uber drivers get paid and tipped. Youre not being treated like an Uber. You’re being taken advantage of through and through. If your friends arent offering to drive this person around themselves, they can keep their opinion to themselves. Are they under the assumption that you sit in a dark room everyday just waiting for her to ask for a ride? NTA.
If youre not prepared to ditch this friend, I suggest waiting a few hours to respond to her.
NTA. If she’s not paying you for these rides then you’re not even her personal uber. At this point you should just send her a detailed invoice for all the rides you have given her in the past, it’s up to you if the invoice is just for gas money or for your time as well, and tell her that you’ll only consider driving her anywhere again once she’s paid in full.
