AITA for telling my neighbor I plan to trap their cat (feral)

r/

Neighbor has a feral cat they’ve been feeding for several years – at this point has now had 3 or 4 litters.

Some litters in my garage, some in another neighbors garage. I took “our” cats in and fixed – they now live indoors with us (grrrr).

Other neighbor took their “surprise” straight to a rescue 6-minthe ago.

Welp, the newest litter has been kept hidden by the “offending” neighbor for weeks it seems and this new cat family ended up in my garage again nesting to my surprise.

I caught the kittens and found a rescue, and same day turned them over. I’ve now asked the neighbor to make an appointment to get the mother fixed or I will be trapping.

Shes refusing to get “her” street cat fixed, Am I The Asshole or does this cat belong to the streets?

OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the asshole:

    > I threatened to trap a feral cat that belongs to my neighbor, to get it fixed.

Does the cat belong to her if it’s feral? Is it ok to trap it?

NTA. While the neighbor thinks they are doing a kindness by feeding the cat, by not having it fixed they are actually doing harm. Trap and get the cat fixed. You can re release it if you wish. Is there a local program that fixes feral cats, but then releases them?

NTA. You’d be doing the cat and your other neighbors a favor. If you haven’t already done so, look into local TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) programs. They may be able to help you.

NTA. Feeding stray cats is a bigger issue as it leads to hygiene problems and diseases. Plus, this is happening on your property, so anything these cats might do to you is by relativity, HER fault

The cat doesn’t belong to the streets. No cat should have to live this way; she’s already had at least 3 litters that you know about. All those kittens, without homes; there’s no good reason for this to continue.

If the cat is feral, you might want to ask animal control if there is such a thing in your location; they deal with this kind of thing often and can deal with the neighbor if she causes a fuss. However, if you trap the cat, get her neutered and get her into a good shelter instead of just turning her loose again, that would be a good thing to do. The kindest thing would be to get her into somewhere safe and warm where she will be fed and cared for.

    Thank you for caring enough.

We feed the feral cats enough they don’t starve in the winter. They hunt the mice. They get used to being by the house where we can trap them. We have a Feral Cat Coalition that does really low cost spay/neuter. Our whole neighborhood has worked together on this.

NTA! Look for TNR groups. My sister works with a couple and traps pretty regularly.

Being honest, do you think he’d really notice if cat is truly feral. He is feeding her but unless handling her, then fair chance he’ll think she is missing a week or so. Depends how obvious shaven belly is and how shy cat.
