AITAH for secretly rehoming my neighbor’s abused puppies?

r/

I (22F) work from home, and our neighbor has a dog that recently had puppies. I’ve seen him yelling at them, spraying them with water, and even tossing them around during storms. I’ve quietly taken the pups in during heavy rain, fed them, and cleaned them up. My younger sibling helps, but we can’t keep them long-term.

What really broke me is when my own family started doing the same thing. My brother poured hot water on one of them. My dad kicked a pup just because it was nearby. I begged them to stop, told them animals don’t learn through abuse, but they kept brushing me off.

So I messaged a rescue group I met through a vet friend and asked if they could take the pups. They agreed, and I gave the dogs away without telling my family or the neighbor. I know this might blow up when they notice, but I couldn’t watch it happen anymore.

I know I probably crossed a line, but honestly, I don’t regret saving them. Still, AITAH for doing it behind everyone’s back?

NTA. Your neighbor and your family are the actual assholes here, not you. They forfeited any “right” to those pups the moment they started harming them.

Good God, your brother in particular sounds like a psychopath!. Boiling water?! You 100% did the right thing obviously. And in your shoes I’d be making a plan to get very far away from your psycho neighbour and your psycho family.

They were abusing puppies. You rehomed them. That’s not crossing a line, that’s being the only sane person in the room. Let them be mad. They don’t deserve pet

BOILING WATER???? Jesus christ. How old is he? Are you sure he isn’t a psychopath or a sociopath? Because they always start with particular cruelty towards animals.

NTA. You’re obviously the only person involved who has human decency

No. Technically they were breaking laws by abusing the puppy’s so by getting them Into a rescue you’ve done the right thing
