AITAH for telling my classmates the cruise is overpriced?

r/

So next year will be the 25th class reunion and they decided to plan a cruise. While this could have been a beautiful thing, the problem is it’s over priced for the duration. The cruise is only 3 days and port in the Bahamas for a few hours. The cost for this 3 day cruise starts at $900 and that doesn’t include traveling to and from the port. That also doesn’t include any activities while on the ship. So when I did the math, one would be spending close to $1500 or more for 3 days and it ain’t worth it. Hell I can fly straight to the Bahamas and stay for a week at that price. When I brought it up that they needed to find a better deal, they said that’s a good one.

Here’s the thing: there has been low participation with local activities for the previous reunions, what makes them think the turn out will be great in an over priced cruise.

Am I tripping or is this a deal?

OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the asshole:

    > I basically said something about the price of the cruise because I feel others was just going alone or no one wanted to admit it was overpriced. They may see it as me having something negative to say but it’s the truth.

NTA, you’re giving your classmates feedback on their plans, and suggesting improvements. You may have communicated something others felt as well, but didn’t have the courage to say.

    You’re not tripping. That’s a terrible deal.
It’s a reunion, not a luxury vacation. Your classmates are being unreasonable. NTA.

NAH. The reunion planners are looking at something that millions of people say they enjoy doing. You’re looking at it from a cost/benefit perspective.

Of course, cruises are overpriced if you think of them strictly as modes of transportation between their ports of call. But a lot of people think of them as massive hotels/resorts whose time floating on the ocean is romantic and worth the cost.

NTA- $1500 for 3 days is wild when you could stretch that into a full week somewhere nicer. You weren’t trippin, just real

That is quite expensive. I think it depends what site you are using and which ship you are travelling on. However to spend 900 for a 3 day cruise is daylight robbery. I can book a cruise for next year for $484 that’s 3 nights and goes to 2 ports and back to the destination you leave from and that’s in the Bahamas so that’s quite cheap and the ship is actually nice. That also includes entertainment, soft drinks, tea and coffee aswell as free meals.

Class reunions are still a thing?

I’d hate to waste that much money on seeing family. Who’d want to waste it on classmates?

At the end of the day, NAH, but they should get their Surprised Pikachu Faces ready for when this reunion is no better attended than the others.

I have definitely spent less on 7 day cruises with having to pay a single supplement. I’m guessing this isn’t a private ship or a high end line?

NTA. I’m anti-reunion at this point for reasons much like this. My class attempted a ten year reunion, which was nearly ten years ago now. They planned it in our hometown park, and wanted everyone to pay $250 per person for “burgers, hot dogs, and unlimited beer.” A few folks— mostly pregnant women— mentioned that this was not a great deal if you weren’t planning on getting smashed, and asked if there could be a less expensive option for those who couldn’t drink. They were told unequivocally no.

Understandably, many people felt like $250 was a bit much to eat hot dogs on folding chairs in the park and to subsidize the alcoholism of a bunch of dudes who never grew up and never left town. So it was cancelled— and the reasoning given was “we had to cancel it because I guess people in our class are too cheap or too broke.”

Next year will be twenty years so… maybe they’ll try again.
