Aliens wouldn’t invade earth to enslave humanity or for Earth’s resources. Aliens can travel across the galaxy, universe, dimensions. They will have all the technological advancements and the entirety of the infinite vastness of space and all of its resources.

We humans live comparatively alien and ultra advanced lives compared to forest critters yet we still cut down their homes.
If aliens have enemies. Then, it’s more for territory expansion and/or denial of resources to the enemy. Especially if their territories are close by to our planet.
It only makes sense that they would invade because we are delicious and hard to find anywhere else in the universe.
Yeah but you can only get humans from Earth.
Or they just unlocked the ability to travel the galaxy and need resources to keep up their new quantum radiator.
We’re the aliens. Earth is intergalactic Australia.
The idea that an interstellar space-faring alien civilization would intentionally target Earth for its natural resources is indeed bizarre.
It would be like going to a neighborhood with millions of empty houses and specifically choosing to occupy the one house that already has a family living in it.
What if the resource they need is human livers?
Do people commonly think aliens are looking for slave labor or oil? Never came to mind for me.
The only thing Earth has going for it that makes it very rare across the galaxy is the biomass. We’d be livestock, pets, or chicken nuggets for more advanced species
We’re a galactic tourist attraction. Lots of colours, lots of sceneries. The moon and the sun are the same visual size in the sky, allowing eclipses to occur which isn’t the norm for planet+moon systems. Also our moon is pretty large proportionally to the Earth, which also isn’t very common and makes for beautiful moon watching.
Have you seen moon eclipses on other planets? Utterly pathetic compared to ours. Feel bad for them, really.
Also, our planet’s got recreational drugs AND popcorn.
Yes but they may want oil and not nasty wind energy we genrate. Only way to take oil is armed freedom liberation
We certainly don’t know that earth doesn’t have vast quantities of Unobtainium. That’s a resource worth invading for.
After all, the Oankali came to get cancer.
You made the mistake of thinking for the aliens. Aliens are, by definition, alien and the way they think is not known to us.
Perhaps for aliens invasion is a logical choice somehow.
Agreed. I think we project that stuff on potential alien life because that is probably what we would do if we could visit other planets…
Habitable planets (assuming they are biologically similar enough to make earth a suitable colonization target) are rare.
You think if a space traveling humanity found a planet we could live on. But there were women pesky less advanced intelligent species already living there. That we wouldn’t take over?
We are the only thing worth something on this planet. Some might say worthless!
Chances are they’d ask or leave, Humans are aliens that show signs of intelligence so maybe it’s possible?
Unless they need our toenails or something. Personally I’d hope they want a bunch of our plastic because there’s no lack of that
Traveling dimensions or universes is pure sci-fi, we have no known ways of doing it, same as we have no way of doing FTL or time travel. And before anyone says, while we might have math that might work on FTL, we can’t make negative matter to actually do it, something working out mathematically doesn’t necessarily have bearing in reality.
Otherwise, generally yes. They wouldn’t come here specifically for Earth’s resources, but Earth does have resources, as does the rest of the solar system that would be useful. And while water is pointless to come to Earth for, we do have plentiful biomass that might be of interest, and for all we know could be fairly rare to come across naturally, whereas you could get aluminum, or water, or silicon virtually anywhere. But one scenario we could envision is an alien civilization stopping by for resource extraction in the solar system, completely ignoring Earth, and all we can do is watch because we can’t do anything to stop them.
There are some scenarios. Elimination of future threat or earth is surprisingly rare.
They might just be trying to spread managed democracy.
Unless worlds like Earth are both as life-sustaining as we know it to be and as rare as some expect them to be. What if there are only, say, 100 planets resembling earth in our galaxy? Then it makes a lot more sense.
true. why takeover an infested planet for resources when there are trillions of other uninhabited planets with the same elements ripe for the taking.
Unless their galaxy is flooded with habitable planets, earth still holds value for any kind of life form.
They could use earth as a prison, for example.
“Invasion” could take many forms.
Maybe they came across us long ago and decided to experiment on us. Genetically.
Or they left automated monitoring systems. Sophisticated ones that can interact with us. Like robotic fish in the ocean to attempt to blend in and examine us up close and personal. (I think I may have met one or two of these fakes.)
The above could be considered extremely invasive, without the need to announce their presence, steal our resources, or eliminate us.
Right. Everyone knows they do it for sport.
Absolutely right. Except they’d abduct our women
Been saying this for years , would be completely stupid to engage an inferior race , with inferior technology, wasting time and resources when they could just not deal with that mess at all and go tow a solid chunk of what ever resource to where ever they want with far more advanced technologies, assuming they even need or desire “resources” … it’s all just the anthromorphization of anything , us humans do.
The movie Oblivion had a good theme to it: an advanced AI sent to harness solar resources, with a side project of annihilating any sentient species found in the system. I don’t think they explicitly stated it but my head canon is that it’s one of millions sent to millions of systems. Or part of a self-replicating cascade effect.
We don’t ever need to mine diamonds again after we discovered how to synthesize near perfect copies. Yet all across the world those in abject poverty dig underground for shiny stones.
What if they’re like us and just some asshole kid with a magnifying glass above an ant pile.
Remember that things like cellulose is one of the rarest substances in the universe as far as we know. Only found on earth.
If we ever are visited, it’s most likely to be automated ships (see von Neumann probes).
Space is just too big for us to expect any other sort of visit – based on our current understanding of interstellar travel anyway.
They wouldn’t enslave humans, but self-replicating craft might take some resources in order to make more of themselves – so that part is possible
If aliens invaded earth, it would be for aesthetic reasons or moral reasons, and the reasons would probably make no sense to us.
I hope they come just to watch the shit show! That and for the water parks right KP?
Our earth has a stupendous amount of stupidity. That may be rare in the universe.
There was a documentary about this called Earth Girls Are Easy.
You should look that one up, it’s Peak Geena Davis Jeff Goldblum Jim Carrey and Damon Wayans.
the spice is rare and requires certain special rites and rituals to extract from its hiding place. slavery of the locals makes the spice even spicier.
“They will have all the technological advancements and the entirety of the infinite vastness of space and all of its resources.”
Our planet is part of that universal resources.
What if human flesh is a more preferred fleshlight choice
That’s also bad. If they are so removed from real existence and life itself then we wouldn’t matter. We would be Ants to them and would be easily swept aside.
Yeah they do and that’s why all they want now is to enslave us
Sol 3 is the only M class planet in vicinity so that makes it valuable real estate.
What if Earth, as a habitable planet, was the resource they were after?
This is exactly what we told the African people when we arrived there in our big and beautiful wooden boats.
And what we told the Chinese when we arrived in our gorgeous red coats, and all we wanted was a monopoly on the trade of opium.
And what we told Arabic people when we arrived in our planes and automobiles and we decided to split that area up into whatever way we liked.
We didn’t need any of that. We already had the far superior technology. I still don’t understand all the wining and complaining, really. It’s so silly
/s
Edit: I forgot to mention all those Indians who spontaneously decided dying was an reasonable move, after our guy Columbus arrived there in 1492. I mean seriously, did they have to be that upset about it? All we wanted was a bit of gold and silver. Is that too much ask ? Jeez!
I think the resources aliens would want from earth would be natural beauty and/or entertainment. We’d be pests or zoo animals.
If they came for anything, it would be for living things, probably a very rare resource. So yes, it would probably be sex stuff, or their equivalent
They want to take over earth and turn it into a lucrative vacation destination.
In all honesty this is the most likely unlikely scenario for alien invasion.
Our full eclipse, as far as we know, does not exist anywhere else in the universe. It is so insanely mathematically rare that it woukd be special if life is not just an earth thing
I think this is true. Anything you can find on Earth you can find much more easily and with far less resistance somewhere else.
Now they wouldn’t invade to enslave us but why would they ignore resources? The reason against it is that they have the entirety of space, but even with warp technology existing it still takes time to get places. They wouldn’t target us specifically, but just like how we can tell information about distant planets through the light spectrums they reflect out we can be IDd for that high water/nitrogen/oxygen planet.
Even if you can travel to another planetary system doesn’t immediately translate to being able to terraform planets.
Or it could just be a colonization species, expanding territory. Just like how there aren’t military bases in antarctica, having to make depots/relays/etc in a “dead” system would be really costly. Instead you find a system with a habitable world, clear it out, and there you go self sufficient output system.
The real myth is that aliens would invade personally instead of just directing a couple asteroids from the belt to take out the large organisms and then moving in when the climate settles in another 100 years. Pretty much similar to the movie Oblivion only without the dumbed down aliens that the remaining humans plot armor win over.
Maybe we just taste good? Or maybe they find us irresistibly attractive? Or maybe they find us heretical in some way and want to destroy us for some unfathomable offense. Or maybe they want to enslave us before we could eventually become a threat?
The only resource we have that would be of any use to a spacefaring race would be our sun.
What if aliens wished to conquer earth to integrate humanity into their society because that’s what they do with all aliens they come across? British Empire 2.0 alien edition. But we’re the colonized.
The best examples in scifi that address this in my opinion are about art. This silly book I liked called “Year Zero” where every advanced alien civilization were huge fans of music… But in an ironic twist, Earth music is so much better than anything they had ever encountered that some aliens literally died the first time they listened.
It’s silly to think that some aliens want gold or water or whatever, but art can’t be synthesized (despite AI trying) it requires half a million years of human culture to create “Kpop Demon Hunters” all it requires to make water is some of the most abundant atoms in the universe.
Yeaaaah
What if they see humanity as a threat to Earth or themselves? We’d totally go into virgin woods and kill/capture an invasive species.
What if they see Earth as a potential turf war with a rival? “Enslave humanity before the Tramalfadorians do!”
Or what if their technology is not so advanced as we think it could be. They could be stranded here or otherwise need something we have to leave. (See District 9, Sirens of Titan)
at the same time: they kinda have what’s around.. and theirs.
Projects can get very expensive
A more accurate analogy might be the starting of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy where the Vogons just straight up obliterated earth because it was in the way of their space highway. They are not particularly going to care about Earth
All of its resources include us and this planet
Those resources you’re talking about…We can easily one of them just as easily as they can harvest something on planet Fartoid in sector whatever the smell…
Elements and minerals would be easily obtained elsewhere, but do you know of a single other location in all the universe with biomass? If it’s as rare as we think, it’s incredibly valuable.
But maybe they want to terminate us, just because we are not smart enough
maybe they play space pokemon go with different life forms and want to put us in digital tesseract as a trophy and make us battle each other or put charming hats on us
Considering we’re a race of aliens to other people, and the world we live in is so incredibly divided by ignorance, hatred, corporate interest, and sociopathic leaders. I would consider that any alien race that were to encounter us would be equally divided and would conquer us in a heartbeat considering the propensity we have for violence against each other
They might just do it for the love of the game, If the Sangheli or Yautja are any indication of possible alien cultures.
Also, Earth doesn’t have anything non-biological that other planets wouldn’t also have, in terms of elements.
The only thing I would imagine aliens cared about is to see examples of biological processes that aren’t on other worlds, kind of like going to the zoo.
They probably wouldn’t kill us until they got to know us
Resources and anthropomorphised greed may not be the theoretical issue.
What if they simply dont care enough about humanity to not accidentally kill us as they move on through? What if despite their advanced technology, they still need consumable resources, that may or may not exist in our solar system or planet?
An advanced civilisation doesnt need to be hostile to extinct us. that could happen through accident or apathy, or their equivalence to a lack of caring.
We are part of the galaxy you mention, as are our resources. If they came all that way to fuck with us, it is 100% for our resources.
That’s a bold assumption, specially since humans take from others even when they don’t really need to do things that way
Yeah they can get water on every other planet in this system….
If they want to eat chicken, this is the place to be in the entire universe.
I ain’t kidding.
We’d be that fucked up galactic zoo that aliens would tell their friends they gotta check out to believe it.
Tyranids from Warhammer 40k would def come to earth for biomass. So rip us
and more to the point, if they were here for resources that they could not make, why risk invasion. Just bomb from orbit or inject bio we@pons into atmosphere or use drones. Any space faring race we are miles behind to combat. We will be extinct before we know it.
If you’re rationalizing alien encounters you can’t really ignore dark forest hypothesis.
Basically there can’t be any alien interaction because technological progress is exponential and space is big. So by the time you are able to get word to any alien civilization you or they would be imminently close to being able to destroy you utterly. So there is basically no move besides to destroy them first or if nothing else. Just stay absolutely silent.
Probably reasonable to think they won’t need a native workforce or the minerals.
However, I guess they could want the planet, since it’s rather rare to find Earth-like conditions. …. so, maybe we’re still in danger?
Yeah, no aliens would want a power trip and hunt us for sport, or just want to see some people burn, or enslave them to make them feel good about themselves…
They might come on a generation ship on its last legs and need some place.
If aliens are so advanced they can traverse the universe to find us, that is exactly why we will be enslaved. In their view, we would be a lesser species.
Not if they figured out how to bend space-time. And they see some of the gorgeous women we have.
That really depends on their ability to easily travel between stars. If they only have the technology for a slow 1 way trip (which would be impressive enough) they very well may be inclined to take resources by force because the alternative might be death
Maybe they need to refuel as they conquer the galaxy and Earth will do nicely for that extra little bit of resources.
They very well could invade for our resources, we have one of the rarest materials within the known universe! Wood!
They’re just coming to probe that booty of course
Humans put animals in cages for entertainment.
Also, sometimes they kill them and turn them into souvenirs.
True, but consider: life may not be particularly rare in the galaxy, but complex organisms take billions of years to evolve and their various traits aren’t easy to conceive, much less develop from scratch. Earth, however, has a wealth of them. A few billion years ago, Earth was dominated by fairly simple organisms like cyanobacteria. Half a billion years ago, there were 20,000 species of trilobite. Now there are more than a million distinct plant and animal species, despite human activity. What if other worlds are much less biologically diverse, either because of a lack of mutation-driven evolution or because the dominant form of life accidentally caused a mass extinction at some point? What if they’re looking to repopulate their world by adapting non-native life forms, but can’t build new species from scratch?
I think the main motivation for leaving your planet to explore would be that you are running out of resources, so I believe aliens with this level of technology would be looking for resources
If they possess all of the resources, it stands that they must have acquired those resources, so why wouldn’t that be exactly what they do with Earth?
How many of the planets and whatnot that we can observe seem to have resources needed for life?
Bingo. You hear ancient aliens types going on about aliens enslaving ancient human civilizations to mine gold for them and shit like that. There’s individual asteroids in our own system that contain more gold than the human race has mined in our entire history. Aliens have no need for stone age laborers.
What if they don’t need to travel any distance to get here? What if we are the farm but we’re completely unaware of it?
In The Expanse, they were talking about how wood is very rare when it comes to space. Or leather. Of course, I guess such an alien civ, can synthesise similar stuff, but maybe some things will only work with the natural thing.
And also conspicuous consumption would be for them too. So Earth-made exotic leather bags would be good. You can make other leather bags from other planets too, but Earth ones are better. You can make rugs everywhere but somehow Persian ones are more expensive.
Oh, people of Earth fight back to not give it to us. Well, just colonise them and exploit them for this rare resource.
When you are powerful, you can make life miserable for millions for a petty thing. What reason there is to think they won’t be like this? Of all the things the Earth can offer, surely some of them will be Earth-only. And that would be the reason to mess the place up.
Sounds like murica not invading cause they have enough oil
Wood.
Wood is probably not very common and requires specific environments to grow. But it is very beautiful and useful. In the future the most luxurious items will have finished wood.
They need our brainstems. PRAISE ARKVOODLE!
I think you are underestimating how rare and how useful a subservient species with high intelligence really is.
Think of how domination and domestication of various animals helped human development: dogs, cats, horse, cows, pigs, etc. And out of literally billions of species on earth, we were only able to domesticate like, 10-15 species.
And what did the Europeans do to all the native Americans when they showed up??
Aliens ain’t got no tacos. You can shove brzz’t into a tortilla made of splorg, but it ain’t no fuckin’ authentic taco.
We are either food, work force or building material for something else. Or we are just worthless paying attention.
Or my favorite, we are the first ones.
Resources are easy to find. Y’know what’s rare?
Planets that sustain life. And if that super-abundance made them overpopulate…
They could always befall some alien illness, causing them to zombie pilot their ships to other planets to infect…
Any alien civilization is going to be so far advanced from us, that comparison would be ridiculous.
We’d be closer to cavemen like 6,000 year ago, then we would be any aliens that could travel here.
If they were to invade, it would have to be for something unique that earth has, and none of us would have any idea what that could or would be.
What if they eat the souls of sapient beings?
Only if Aliens were really really bored would they even bother to notice a species that is not capable of interstellar travel. Humans simply would not be considered intelligent “life”?
If you have the technology to travel across the vastness of space, then you realize we really have nothing of value here.
If Aliens comes to Earth, they do the same things that Spanish and English people have done to the America.
I don’t think they travel space to share their technology and help us.
BUT if they come in peace, we are so stupid that we can start a war with them.
Nah, it inflates our ego to believe someone’s coming after us.
No we are a reality tv show called Earth on interdementional cable.
Imagine you come across that bug rolling a poop and that stupid bug would think that we want to steal his great and precious poop
Yeah…. that’s we compared to aliens . They don’t need our nice round poop .
Unicorns can turn hair brushes to gold and like rice on their pizza.
Why are you assuming an alien race that’s survived long enough to have intergalactic travel abilities is benevolent and peaceful? Who’s to say a tyrannical species isn’t the one we get eventually? Humans commit vicious atrocities simply for their own enjoyment, why would an advanced client race be so different? Maybe they are and that’s why they leave us alone. Or maybe we’ve just been lucky so far and the vicious ones haven’t found us yet.
There has always been a group of people that had all the money and tech of their time. They still enslaved people.
