Like the title says, I feel so sleepy starting 4-5 days before my period. All I want to do is lay in bed and sleep. I find myself drifting off at my desk at work. I could sleep for 12 hours or more. I am 28 so it is def not growing pains.
I always hear people talk about fatigue as a PMS symptom, but it is usually not specifically described as sleepiness.
Once the first day or two of my period is over, I feel back to my normal energy levels.
I also get headaches, anxiety, and a touch of body dysmorphia just before my period.
I guess I was just looking to see if other people also experience this or if I should ask a doctor. 😂 And if you do experience it, how do you get through it?

The period fatigue throws me. I work in construction and mining and sometimes just need to call my boss and pull up and sleep in the car somewhere. Lucky on the mine I was on we had a paramedic office and they let me sleep there.
Eating more meat around this time helps, but when the crash hits it hits.
Good now I’m in a work from home role and can just change my work hours around a bit to allow a lunch time nap break.
Learning better to give my body what it needs rather than pushing through.
PMS fatigue is real and regularly discussed. Sometimes it means you are vitamin deficient – make sure to take vitamins during that time.
You also may have an undiagnosed something unrelated to periods that gets worse during that time due to biological changes.
Have your estrogen/estrodial and progesterone checked – those are the hormones that follow the typical trend you describe for timing. If those are low, then the drop in them will wreck you.
Also check to see if you have any intolerances to food. I have a potato intolerance and learned white potatoes actually mess with your hormones (estrogen) and blood sugar as it does things to insulin in your body.
If you eat fries and potatoes a lot, try avoiding them the week before your period and the first few days. Eat lots of leafy greens. What we eat can very much affect our hormones which can increase or decrease our period and pre menstrual symptoms.
Fiber, water, tea, and red meat. Not at all a solution and sometimes it does nothing at all but when it helps it makes a difference.
Getting on the ring helped the most but now I’m old and they won’t let me have it anymore.
The day or so before my period, I get highly motivated to clean and get my life in order. I’m most likely to dump a man the day before my period. The first day of my period, I ger extremely fatigued, and struggle to get anything done. For no reason I understand, drinking a coke helps. It’s often the only day I buy myself a soda.
