Am I alone is perceiving, what seems to be, Donald Trump’s understanding that he is a lame duck president, has not much to lose or gain, more years behind than ahead, and he is now a man seeking vengeance on our country?

r/

With the sole intent of simply destroying it before he rides off into the sunset?

He just stated, that he is going to put tariff on pharmaceuticals?

It’s not even covert anymore, he’s laughing at his idiotic followers and sneering at the rest of us who despise him.

And no one is going to stop him.

    Yes.

Trump has wanted tariffs since the 80s. Anyone who has a modicum of awareness knows this. This is him just doing what he believes in. He legitimately thinks other countries have been taking advantage of us for decades, and guess what – they have. I don’t know if he actually wants to bring back jobs or if the other theory of him trying to drive down interest rates to be able to buy up assets, but we know he’s wanted this for 40 years.

No, I think he is very very stupid and thinks the tariffs will work and recreate the 1980s, and his supporters will work in the toaster factory.

That said, he doesn’t care if he fails because Republicans won’t hold him accountable, his supporters will believe his lies, and no one else has the power to harm him

  5. ButGravityAlwaysWins Avatar

    That is one theory.

Another theory is that he believes that by the end of this term, he will not have to leave office and so he doesn’t really need to worry about elections for very much longer

Another theory is that he legitimately believes that all the policy he is trying to implement, especially when it comes to things like the tariffs, are really brilliant ideas and that he’s doing good for the country.

I think some things he does out of spite. But I think most of his decisions come from two things:

    1. He’s trying to leave a legacy of him being a great president. Whether it be by increasing the physical size of the US, playing a tough guy to our allies (?!), or pretending to be the great uniter. However, I think he’s super tone deaf on this, as the more he does, the more he’s hated.

    2. He’s an idiot and he’s listening to people who are either also idiots or people who have ulterior motives. He clearly has no clue how tariffs work. So he’s either listening to people who also don’t understand tariffs or he’s listening to people who want to the market to crash so they can buy everything up.

You’re not alone but you’re wrong. His economic beliefs are just protectionist stupidity. It’s not that deep.

  8. usernames_suck_ok Avatar

He strikes me more as thinking he’s immortal somehow. Think back to how he acted after someone shot at his ear. That made the “you can’t get rid of me” mentality even worse, I think.

    And/or he thinks he’s still 30. I wouldn’t doubt it.

  9. Oceanbreeze871 Avatar

He believes he is the smartest person in the room and wants world leaders to beg him for things

  10. Competitive-Bat-43 Avatar

I think you are giving him too much credit. He is no where near this smart. He is a puppet of a foreign power who only needed to be told that he was the greatest

  11. monkeysinmypocket Avatar

Nah. He thinks he’s a genius and he’s building a great legacy. He thinks trying to nickel n dime, extort and blackmail is how everyone does business (he’s not entirely wrong there I guess?). He also thinks everyone else is an NPC. It literally doesn’t matter if we live or die. He’s a maniac.

  12. nakfoor Avatar

It’s all speculation, but my guess would be he doesn’t think his lame-duck status much. He seems pretty checked out. My guess would be he is mostly content to enrich himself and relax. I do think the people around him want revenge, however.

  13. thebigmanhastherock Avatar

Don’t overthink anything with Trump. He has no idea what he is doing. Somehow he knows even less about being the president the second time ever though he was already president for four years. It’s just completely unbelievable that we have such a man in charge again…this time with far fewer guardrails.

I mean everything that myself and other non-Trump supporters were saying would happen is. There is no grand plan or “4D Chess” there never has been any there never will be. This is just dumbness. A reflection of the dumbness of our society at large.

  14. Automatic-Ocelot3957 Avatar

I dont believe he believes that he’s a lame duck president on account of his 3rd term comments.

What really scares me is that the entire Republican party has seemingly neglected any concept of electability, which tells me they feel no sense of responsibility to appeal to their voters. The optimist in me says they feel that their propoganda networks have eclipsed reality for their voters, so they don’t care about appealing to them. The other side of me thinks they plan on not having free and fair elections again, so they dont need to appeal to anyone.

    He’s America’s abusive husband.

  16. Berenstain_Bro Avatar

I think he has (and currently does) sit at the feat of Putin for the sake of learning how to be a tyrannical leader that can stay in power until the day he dies.

  17. Kerplonk Avatar

I think that would require a level of self-awareness that Trump probably lacks.

I certainly think it’s the case that some of what Trump is doing is motivated openly by vengeance and some of it is about personal enrichment both of which he’s fully aware of, but a lot of it is either some sort of instinctual people pleasing (of his base) or a greatly inflated sense of his own judgment that he thinks all the people who have spent time and energy studying problems know less than he does.

  18. MyceliumHerder Avatar

He understands he is a lame duck, but most importantly, he’s trying to make himself as much money as he can, being president is the most lucrative and profitable thing he’s ever done.

  19. AssPlay69420 Avatar

    Yeah, it’s all just malice

There’s nothing conservatives gain by outright blocking renewable energy from being built

It’s just designed to piss the liberals off with no better reason

Oh well, maybe they’ll be paying hundreds for a loaf of bread and have learned their lesson

  20. c95Neeman Avatar

I believe Halon’s razor applies here “never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence”

Which is just fancy words for “people are stupid. And its way easiet to ruin something via stupidity, then via smart evilness” and while I do think trump is evil, I don’t think he is smart enough to be plotting intentional, successful evil with this. I think he is probably just very dumb, and does not understand tariffs.

  21. torytho Avatar

He is very vengeful and clearly abusing his power in seeking out retribution… against specific people and news outlets and law firms.

About tariffs, he’s just a fucking idiot.

  22. RolandDeepson Avatar

I don’t know if you’re alone in thinking this, but I do think that you should be.

That’s not a judgement or a knock on you. I simply think that your conclusion is incorrect.

Donald Trump has absolutely no desire, no plan, no expectation, and most importantly NOT A SINGLE OUNCE OF WILLINGNESS to simply “ride off into the sunset.”

He will NEVER leave office alive, and he will ABSOLUTELY NEVER EVER leave office willingly.

In his mind, he has already become President For Life.

Period. There is no handwringing. There is no “I wonder if.” There is no “people are saying.” There is no “my staff is looking into it.” There is no “maybe there’s a way.”

To his mind, by his understanding:

    It Is Already Done.

    It already happened.

What he DOES realize is still yet to be determined, is whatever sales pitch / song and dance that he’ll finally seize upon to propagandize as his excuse, his justification for it. THAT part he hasn’t finalized yet.

What he has not yet solidified is his plan to silence and defeat the mere act of naysaying in general. Because, in his mind, “people” do not exist in this world. Notice, I am intentionally NOT suggesting that he even thinks of “naysayers,” as if “a person who says nay” were an actual thing that could ever start to exist, anywhere in the universe, anywhere in the past or future, in any galaxy or on any planet whatsoever.

To him and other deranged narcissistic losers like him, there is only

    • Himself
    • People he transactionally likes
    • People that he transactionally hates

“Persons” don’t individually exist apart from himself, and that means that “personalities” don’t exist apart from his. “Opinions” don’t exist apart from his own. Anyone who disagrees with him has just as much dignity or social value to him, as a rabid raccoon would have dignity or value to you or me. If people are cuddly and docile and sit-pretty begging for treats like trained dogs, he likes them. If people oppose his plans, “say mean things” about him, or work against his personal goals in any way at all, he despises them and would absolutely LITERALLY shoot them on Fifth Avenue if he ever got the chance, even if cops were LITERALLY watching with LITERAL cameras.

Precisely WHAT any given person does, transactionally, to end up on his good side or his bad side is irrelevant. Again, no one but Donald John Trump, Sr. is “a person,” all other human bodies are simply things for him to step on along the way.

  23. Thatdewd57 Avatar

He’s got just a few years left so it’s basically selling his soul to get all the money he can to leave behind for his family. He’s been decades in the making. It’s basically all an act in the interest of getting richer along with anyone else willing to participate. It’s the exit of the Boomer population and they are trying to grab and spend everything they can.

  24. Art_Music306 Avatar

He doesn’t even need the support of his supporters anymore. He’s done with elections, in one way or another.

Now it’s just attempts to make the wealthy more so, according to how much they contribute to his coffers.

I don’t think he hates America, but he does hate the idea of democracy, fundamentally. That’s for the rubes, and he’s for himself, and then the elites that kiss the ring.

  25. srv340mike Avatar

I’ve had that thought too, but I think the more likely explanation is just that he really truly believes he knows what’s best.

It’s less malice and more Dunning-Kreuger syndrome.

  26. piney Avatar

I think he’s a small man without principles who is seizing his chance to be in the history books. I don’t think he cares if he ends up being a seen as good or bad as long as he makes a quick buck and he’s seen as having been powerful.

  27. tonydiethelm Avatar

Ugh. Just stop. He’s not a movie villain. Shit, even stupid movie villains have better motivations than that.

He’s a con man. He’s not trying to destroy America, he’s just shaking people down for money.

It’s not some stupid “destroy the country”, it’s the same old regular pedestrian shitty petty con man BS that he’s been doing for decades.

  28. _vanmandan Avatar

Why do you think we’re tariffing pharmaceuticals, remember in 2020 when china cut off our access to pharmaceuticals? Do you really believe that relying on china for the well being of our people is sustainable. Y’all are Sooners and refuse to see any upside to the actions of people you don’t like.

  29. conn_r2112 Avatar

No I think he legit thinks he will have a 3rd term

He’s a narcissistic, everything he does is for his own aggrandizement
