Am I lazy for only being able to work 25 – 30 hours a week?

r/

Im 21 and I am working 25 to 30 hours a week with a couple of my shifts being 3am to 1pm. Ive been employed since I was 13 and the job I currently have (5 years nearly) is an intense manual labour job with little to no breaks.

On top of this I’m autistic, have OCD, agoraphobia (that I’m absolutely kicking in the ass though :D), and I deal with a lot of the larger chores around the house since my sister who is unemployed is incredibly lazy and spoiled.

I try my hardest to give everything my best shot but sometimes I want to take things easy or have a little complain about work like everyone does. But it results in my parents screaming in my face about how im lazy and ungrateful.

My mum was actually gob smacked at how ‘little’ hours I work.

Im just wondering whether I’m actually being lazy or if my parents are being harsh with me like they seem to be with most things.

No, you’re not being lazy. Working is hard and does in fact create and worsen a whole bunch of mental and physical health issues.

That being said, no you shouldn’t be exempt from working just because it’s hard – but you’re not saying that anyway.

That is not lazy, working 40 hours can be so draining, especially having no breaks, don’t worry you are doing well and your parents are being dramatic

You’re absolutely not lazy. You’ve been working since 13, doing hard manual labor with tough hours, and managing your own challenges on top of household chores. That’s a lot. It sounds like your parents don’t fully understand how much you’re carrying. Needing rest and wanting to vent doesn’t make you lazy, it makes you human.
