Am I overreacting?

r/

My 13-year-old son loves metal music, and he wants to support a band by buying one of their shirts, but the problem is the band name, which as you can see by the title is Dying Fetus. I don’t want him to wear it because I’m Christian and believe by him wearing the shirt with me in public it will offend people who have had miscarriages and make people think I support abortion. should I let him get the shirt?

You shouldn’t care what others think. You know your beliefs a d who you are. The people who know you know your beliefs a d who you are. Only thing is I would donis tell him he can’t wear it to school.

It’s tricky, by denying it you make it more exciting. By allowing it you violate your values (and you can’t effectively force those). Try to strike a deal where you’d buy it but he agrees to wear it in certain situations, to negotiate that his likes are real but not appropriate in every situation.

Mother here, with history of miscarriage. Please let your kid get this t-shirt.

    1. There are far "worse" band names than the dying fetus, trust me. And fetus of which species? They all look very similar under a certain amount of weeks.

    2. Your kid is a teenager, he needs to rebel. Metal music is a good way to channel and express all the "gunk" feeling one has inside. Much better than getting involved in fights, drugs…

    3. Please accept that, once the teen-age years are over, your son might decide to have different values than yours.
As long as he is a reasonable and well adjusted individual, happy in is own skin (and t-shirt) that’s all that matters.
