A lot of people (in the US, and outside) clown on American food a lot. I do understand where it comes from- that a big portion of American food is over processed gunk, which I get. But American food to me is the gourmet barbecue, the small restaurant in town. That is what I think it is and in that case, it is really good. I am a big meat person and always have been, so a good steak, barbecue, burger is always such a delight, and especially if it comes from a good restaurant, food truck or I make it. I can see why people hate on “American food” if it’s mass produced garbage or if they aren’t a meat person, as meat is a big staple in our food. But if you find a good food truck or restaurant, I’m sure it will be very tasty.

Well yeah.
We also have to consider southern food, which is actually it’s own little thing.
American food is a blend from other countries , I don’t get your point.
It’s good if you know where to look. I think the blanket statement that it is all bad isn’t true
American food is fantastic. Authentic southern BBQ is some of the best food I’ve ever had. America is a melting pot and as a result we have been able to absorb some of the best culture cuisines and blend it into new things.
I mean if we are talking about actual top tier cuisine, america is honestly hard to beat due to the mixing of cultures that has been brewing here for years and years. Like we probably have the best food in the world because of that, or at least close to it. We also def have bottom of the barrell junk food too that ppl make fun of too which is fine lol
Saying there is hate on American cuisine just because of meat is giving a strong r/imaginarygatekeeping vibes
Imo every discussion about comparing food cultures immediately turns into a quagmire because some people immediately think about the best a country’s cuisine has to offer, others think of the most traditional/unique dishes, and others think about what the average person consumes on a regular basis. Depending on which aspect of a country’s cuisine you want to compare, the discussion can be entirely different.
I like it when people say nice things about us.
What is American food?
Hard agree. A pulled pork sandwich from almost any not-chain bbq joint is going to be amazing.
Good southern style barbecue is what people should think of as American food. Or buffalo wings.
I like it when people here take what is their heritage food is, and put a spin on it to make it their own.
That to me is the greatest thing about food here.
My favorite food here though (when I can get it), is what most call southern food.
BBQ ribs and brisket, fried chicken, collard greens, okra, grits, corn bread, and pecan pie.
I do like some strawberry rhubarb pie too lol
And since I can’t get a Dublin Dr Pepper anymore (thanks Snapple), I’ll settle for an 1891 from the same place.
I dont think people realize that American food is EVERY culture of food and its amazing. When I lived in rural Japan, there were no chinese restaurants, and when we finally found one it was actually Chinese aka not Americanized. They didnt serve fried rice with orange chicken.
This isn’t an unpopular opinion at all 😂
I always argue that we have more range than most countries. We can get some of the best food in the world in the US. We also have crappy dollar store frozen food. Overseas, the food you get at the store/restaurant is likely to be better quality on average, and higher quality products (like a decent loaf of bread) will likely be cheaper.
America has the best breakfast..
American diner food slaps, especially the breakfast stuff. I love a good plate of biscuits and gravy with a side of hash browns.
This is not even close to unpopular
Of course American food is good. Is fucking amazing actually. Why you think everyone is so damn fat?
There isn’t one American food.
And really, almost any cuisine has some good chefs who make great shit.
Or in the case of barbecue… pitmasters.
What is “American Food?”
We don’t even know what an American is right now…
.-= I’ll show myself out =-.
Of course it is. Why do you think there’s an obesity epidemic
I want to go to America just to try the bbq and soul food
